Here we are again boys and girls. ‘The Goldenboy’ in the
Semi-Finals of the Invitational Tournament for the third
year straight. Just like that, with every step back I take
two steps forward.
I find it funny how there are still so many Slater haters
who feel like I don’t deserve the time of day. Yet at Hell
or Highwater, I dominated what is being called the toughest
invitational bracket of all time. Even the doubters can't
blame my success on Amber's interference. The only man she
put her hands on that night was me suckers! Do I really need
to keep proving myself?
Sure I understand why you might not like me. Sure I
understand why my opponents often may not like me. It's
human nature to hate the successful good looking kid always
seen with a hot broad on his arm. Yet without any support,
without any real bromies, I did it again.
Cocky? Nah just confident.
Confident because I just dominated two of the best wrestlers
Australia has ever seen, just as I said I would. Shane Haste
experienced complete technical domination. Just like I said
he would. Davis Storm is your Ironman, your homegrown hero.
And yet in our first encounter I pinned his shoulders to the
mat. JUST LIKE I SAID I WOULD!
Honestly though I'm getting tired of proclaiming my worth.
Writers have been calling me the best in Australia for so
many years and I'm still nowhere near my prime. Yet despite
the fame I have built up around the world, I am without
championships to my name. I'm not going to lie to you, it
eats at me. Professional wrestling is my life and I refuse
to live my life as an uncrowned champion. I won't board
another flight back to A-Town without the world calling me
champ. I've only been home for a few days and people are
already asking me if I think I'm ready for this. Really? The
afterparty is already set, the champagne is on ice and the
Adelaide press are ready for my return home as the
Invitational King in November! Does it sound like the other
5 fighters are as ready as I am?
So who will be next to be eliminated from this year’s
tournament by D-Slats? Will it be last year's paper winner
JT? The returning and hungrier than ever Tyler Jacobs? The
indestructible player from Team Allstar, Sebastian Sander?
Does Dan Moore get this once in a lifetime opportunity to
face the South Australian Stud? Or will Davis Storm be
forever known as "that guy Slater embarrassed again"? It
doesn't matter to me which name I add to the W column. EPW
can feed me whoever they want! I have no problems admitting
that they are all phenomenal talents but no hard feelings
dudes it's just not your time. 2nd best aint that bad,
right?
So for those who weren't there last year, I was screwed out
of the 2008 Invitational Final by Jamie Jurah. JT spent 6
months enjoying the fruits of that prestigious trophy
because of a glitch in the system. This year there are no
glitches. This year I have listened to nobody but myself.
This year you won't find a flaw in Damian Slater's
technique. 2009... Year of the Goldenboy! Sounds good
doesn't it?
The only question I am really asking myself is... Which hand
should I let the referee raise?
See you in August...
