EPW News & Rumours
13/05/04 - INSIDE Evolution 2004
This one won’t be as long as last time. But I, THE INSIDER, will have another column in regards to Evolution 2004 before too long. But enough of that, let’s take a look at the REAL winners and losers from Evolution 2004.

Firstly, the winners.

MIKEY
Now most of you are probably saying, “He got injured”, or “He missed a chance at becoming #1 contender”. How can he be a winner?? Well quite easily. He achieved two things far more important than that. Achievement number was that he REALLY connected with the fans and earnt their respect. Now most of you probably think that you already respected the man. NO YOU DIDN’T. You liked him because he entertained you but you didn’t respect him. I, THE INSIDER, bet you do now. He risked live and limb to try and please you fans the other night. And you responded. Listen to the reaction as he risked it all on that amazing top rope huracanrana. Hear the standing ovations he received when he stood up and when he returned on Night 2.

The second achievement, I, THE INSDIER, hear you ask. He took Jag’s worst shot and came back asking for more the following night. That had to unnerve Jag a little. He tried to put this kid on the shelf and 24 hours later he was finding himself being challenged to a rematch. Mikey showed guts and a no fear attitude. That will play on the mind of every opponent he faces from now on. What needs to be done to this guy to keep him down? The answer is A LOT.

SHANE HASTE & KIEL E. LECTRIFYING
What a team these two make! They were brought together by circumstance on Night 1 and then made a terrific pairing on Night 2. Exactly why Brock Freeman allowed this to happen is anyone’s guess. I, THE INSIDER, believe that Brock had no idea this was going on. Surely he would not allow these two to team together. He has spent months trying to pit them against one another. Where this story leads now is doubtful but I, THE INSIDER, can safely say that we would all like to see these two young men continue as a team.

FN CARNAGE
To beat an Australian wrestling icon is reason alone for him to be classed as a winner. But to defeat an Australian wrestling icon as his own game. Well that deserves special mention. Consider this. Before Evolution, Carnage hadn’t even participated in a hardcore match. He has built his reputation as one of the finest wrestlers in Australia with pure, old school wrestling. On Saturday night, he proved that he could wrestle any style he damn well likes. You become the best by taking on the best and winning.

Yes he is a dirty cheat. Yes the Brat Pack constantly interfere in his matches. And yes he won the title through chicanery and deceit. But at Evolution he showed that he is one of the toughest wrestlers in this country. And he showed that someone will have to take him to hell and back to remove the title from his waist.

And now for the LOSERS.

THE GENETICALLY SUPERIOR TEAM
They scored another win over one of tag team champions. And they also scored a win over on of EPW’s finest in the Vagrant. And they are also in line for an EPW tag team title shot. But this nonsense with Michelle has to stop. It is threatening to create some serious dissension where there should be none. GST are experiencing their best run since they formed as a team last year. They need to capitalise on that. They need to focus on being a team. Why not just agree to bring Michele on board? She proved on Saturday that she could be an asset to their team. Just give the girl a chance CJL. It might just work out for you.

JUSTIN SANE
He was beaten so seriously by Havok that he could not compete on Night 2. I think that pretty much sums it up. Congratulations to him for having the guts to go toe to toe with one of the meanest bastards in Australian wrestling. But maybe he needs to think of the welfare of his tag team in the future. He is a tag team wrestling champion. And tag teams require TWO healthy individuals. Last month, I, THE INSIDER, had a go at Brad West for lacking focus. This month, it’s Justin Sane. The Thrillers need a reality check. Hopefully for them, that reality check won’t be them losing the tag team titles.

TOMMY CARTEL
You know the saying you should be careful what you ask for because you might just get it? Take heed Tommy Cartel. Jimmy Payne is back and looks better than ever. Blade and Cartel struggled to contain Jimmy’s fury on Night 2. They may have bitten off more than they can chew this time.

DAVIS STORM
If I, THE INSIDER, was Davis Storm, I would have wished that I hadn’t invited Lobo to town. Carnage withstood everything that Lobo could throw and him and came out the other side holding the EPW title. Carnage’s confidence will now be at an all time high. A month ago, Storm would have gone into HOHW as a raging favourite. He has beaten Carnage in all four of their singles encounters to this point.

But two things happened at Evolution. Carnage beat Lobo all by himself and Storm needed plenty of help to beat Jag, Havok and Brad West. Now on a positive, Storm showed a will to win at any cost in that match. But Carnage has possessed that attitude ever since he first joined Slick Rick Sanders.

Carnage will be more fired up than ever and ready to prove that he is now better than Davis Storm. Storm will have to lift to another level to capture the title from Carnage at HOHW. Because if he doesn’t, he will again make the list of losers, in yet another column written by I, THE INSIDER.
