18/09/06 - INSIDE Re-Awakening - Bobby Marshall vs Jimmy Payne
Jimmy Payne Bobby Marshall

EPW CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
BOBBY MARSHALL v JIMMY PAYNE

The powerhouse of the Young Guns will go one on one with the centrepiece of the Forefathers to fight for the single most important title in Australian wrestling. But the outcome of this match holds far more importance than any EPW championship match in history.

The word history is appropriate when considering the importance of this match. I, THE INSIDER, could rattle on about the history of both these men.

Jimmy Payne won the very first Invitational Tournament at the very first EPW show, Awakening in 2001. Since that time he has become a two time EPW champion and has been involved in some of the greatest matches this federation has ever seen. The name Jimmy Payne evokes respect from all who have ever stepped foot in an EPW locker room.

Bobby Marshall was one of an elite batch of trainees who were the first to debut from the Dynamite Factory. He was (along with Chris J Lazareth) part of the first team to ever claim the EPW tag team titles twice. Bobby is a super athlete whose recent travels to the US gave him the opportunity to step in the ring with former WWE-star, X-Pac, Sean Waltman.

But that is not the history that I, THE INSIDER, speak of.

In 1863, a battle took place in Pennsylvania. It has since been dubbed, the battle of Gettysburg. The American Civil War had seen the Confederates push North against their Union foes. The Battle of Gettysburg was a battle that the Confederates expected to win as they pushed forward. They were a stronger unit with greater numbers. However, they were stopped dead in their tracks by a more determined Union army. This battle has been widely described as the battle that changed the course of the American Civil War.

Since early 2005, EPW has found a force imposing it’s will over all who stand in their way. The Forefathers have taken all in their path. They have captured the EPW championship & the EPW tag team titles and now they are looking to end the war by ending the careers of those who oppose them.

For the Young Guns, and especially Bobby Marshall, RE-AWAKENING V is their Gettysburg. Although the Young Guns will be behind him, it will be Bobby that must stand defiant against the odds. He must fight against the might of Jimmy Payne and the Forefathers. And he must take the EPW championship from around his opponent’s waist.

Bobby Marshall is a homegrown product of EPW. He was trained at the Dynamite Factory and watched EPW before he joined it’s ranks. Marshall has worked his guts out to force his way up the card and now finds himself in the main event of the biggest show in EPW history. He knows the enormity of being in the main event of Re-Awakening though he is yet to experience it firsthand.

Jimmy Payne has been there and done that. This is Jimmy’s second title reign and his third RE-AWAKENING main event. He will not let the moment get the better of him and will be far more comfortable in this big match environment.

For over 18 months, Bobby has been a leader in the fight against the Forefathers. He has been beaten and punished but he has survived. On November 4th, at the Venville Rec Centre, he must do more than survive. He must become champion.
