20/09/06 - INSIDE Re-Awakening - Devlin Reeves vs Brock Freeman
Devlin Reeves Brock Freeman

INVITATIONAL FINAL
DEVLIN REEVES v BROCK FREEMAN

The final of the 2006 Invitational Tournament. This is the longest running tournament in Australian wrestling & success in this match will mean huge things for either man’s career.

Rather than delve into each man’s chances in this match, let’s first look at the significance of this tournament.

On November 4th 2001, Explosive Pro Wrestling (then Explosive Coastal Wrestling) held a 16 man single elimination tournament. That was the birth of the EPW Invitational tournament. On that day in November, Jimmy Payne walked out with the Invitational trophy & had indelibly made his mark on EPW.

Since then, every winner of the tournament has gone on to taste EPW gold with four of the five winners becoming EPW champion. This is not just another tournament. It is the last hurdle for those on the cusp of greatness. It is the beginning of the final steps towards success in Explosive Pro Wrestling.
On November 4th 2006, Brock Freeman & Devlin Reeves will attempt to become the next in a long line of wrestlers who have used the Invitational as a springboard to glory.

For Freeman, it will mark his second trip to the Final. He was the unlucky loser when FN Carnage took home the trophy in 2002. Freeman has been on fire since ditching the mask and bringing back the ‘American Nightmare’. Victories have piled up quickly as he beaten some of EPW’s best in Azazal, Jamie Jurah & now Damien Slater.

Devlin let it be known at the first event this year that he wanted to win the Invitational tournament at any cost. And he has been obsessed with achieving that goal ever since.

First he defeated Psychofett in a qualifying match for the tournament. This was the single biggest win of Devlin’s career and it has set him on his path towards the Invitational trophy. At Boiling Point he defeated a determined James Street in a tough encounter.

Brock Freeman has travelled a very different path to the Invitational Tournament final. He started the year as Los Freemanos before engaging in a very physical feud with Azazal. Since returning as the ‘American Nightmare’, Brock has been near unstoppable. In fact he has amassed the longest winning streak in EPW right now. He has not lost since falling to Azazal at Settling the Score in February.

His last three matches have seen wins over Jamie Jurah, Damien Slater &, his opponent in the Invitational Final, Devlin Reeves.

To win, Devlin will have to find a way to shatter Brock’s confidence, or body, in the early moments of the match. Freeman has proven this year that when he gets momentum behind him, he is as tough to stop as anyone in EPW.

Reeves dreams of taking home the trophy on November 4th and going on to face the EPW champion next year. But at RE-AWAKENING V, he will face an opponent with more experience and a belief that he will not be denied the second time around. If Devlin Reeves isn’t careful he could find his dream quickly becoming a ‘Nightmare’?
