Look at the End of Year Awards Part II |
I, THE INSIDER, have returned to finish what I started.
There are still two End of Year Awards to examine, but they
are considered the two most important awards by far. First,
we’ll take a look at Match of the Year before moving onto
the big one. Wrestler of the Year.
MATCH OF THE YEAR
There are a few matches that have stood above the rest of
the pack this year. The year started off with an emotional
tag team tables match between GST & the Bad Boys of Perth
wrestling. This was the third match between the two teams
and saw GST walk away with the gold.
Evolution saw two matches put their hand up for Match of the
Year. Mikey & Shane Haste took each other to the limit on
Night 2. Shane was desperate for the win and it drove Mikey
to another level. Eventually Mikey overcame Haste with a
surprise superkick & three brainbusters.
One of the strongest contenders for match of the year also
took place on Evolution Night 2 as Havok & Jimmy Payne tore
each other apart in a Lumberjack match for the EPW
championship. In a hard fought match, it was the Lumberjacks
who made the difference as Jag drilled Havok with a DVD onto
a chair for Payne to capture the gold.
Hell or Highwater saw another contender come to the fore as
Devlin Reeves and Jamie Jurah took it all over the building
in a First Blood Match. Jurah finished Reeves with two huge
chairshots to end what had been a fierce contest.
But another match that night would be the pick of I, THE
INSIDER. An incredible Street Fight between the EPW
champion, Jimmy Payne, and Chris J Lazareth. Both challenger
and champion laid it all out in the ring. Not for the fans,
not for themselves and not for the teams they represent. But
for the EPW championship. And for that effort, they deserve
Match of the Year.
WRESTLER OF THE YEAR
So many options. Or are there?
Although a lot of wrestlers have had good year, only a small
handful have had a great year.
Shane Haste could be considered one of the fore runners for
this award. Despite having a great win loss record and
having crowd support that few could rival he has not quite
been the Wrestler of the Year. He has not won any gold which
a few others have which immediately puts him behind those
men.
Havok has had a sensational year, especially when you
consider that he hasn’t even been in Perth for every event.
He demolished Devlin Reeves at Settling the Score before
taking the EPW title from Mikey in a great match at Stand
and Deliver. He returned at Evolution to team with his valet
Anella as they defeated the European Union. On night 2 he
may have lost the title to Jimmy Payne but he turned in one
of the bravest efforts we have seen for some time. And at
the last event, Boiling Point, he dismantled Davis Storm in
a hard fought match.
I, THE INSIDER, realise this may not be a popular choice but
hell this isn’t a popularity contest. It is a contest for
Wrestler of the Year. And there can only be one choice. The
EPW champion Jimmy Payne.
Jimmy has re emerged as the monster who dominated EPW for
its first two years. He has once again realised that he not
need take a backward step to anyone and he has torn EPW
apart.
How’s this for a resume?
Since 2006 started he has:
Beaten Shane Haste
Won the 6 man Scramble to earn #1 contendership
Beat Havok for the EPW championship in a possible MOTY
Beat CJL in a Street Fight in a possible MOTY
Beaten FN Carnage at an EPW Goldmembers House Show
Lead the Forefathers to two victories in one night at High
Stakes
That is the year of your Wrestler of the Year. |
