Things have been suspiciously quiet on the EPW Board of
Directors front. So I, THE INSIDER, thought it was time to
take a look at some of the major things that have happened
in EPW in the past month.
BRETT CORVUS – JOINS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Well this has to be the #1 news story for anyone involved in
EPW. Corvus has been a senior referee since 2002. Hell or
Highwater marked his 5th anniversary with the company. It
was announced that he was no longer going to be an active
referee as he had been offered a spot on the Board of
Directors. While fans who have only been attending since EPW
moved to the Venville Centre, you may think that this is an
intelligent decision.
However, those of us that have been around for a while know
that Corvus has a penchant for letting his ego get in the
way of him doing his job properly. His issue with Justin
Sane went on for well over 18 months and he was DIRECTLY
responsible for the Serial Thrillers dropping the EPW tag
team titles to GST.
With Jack Burbank currently on a personal hiatus, EPW needed
a face for the Board or Directors. Here’s hoping they
haven’t made a massive mistake.
MARSHALL / STORM TURN ON TEAMMATES
The EPW championship match at Hell or Highwater saw two men
turn on their longtime friends and partners. Everyone was
shocked when Davis Storm drilled Jimmy Payne with the EPW
championship. And they were mortified when Bobby smashed
Haste with a chair and busted him open.
Despite the fact that both of these men have never got
along, their motivation for their actions appear to be the
same. They felt like they had lost the respect of their
peers.
Marshall had failed in two attempts at the EPW championship.
Despite coming so close on both occasions, the fact is he
fell short and he couldn’t learn to accept that his best
friend may get the job done before he did.
For Storm, he felt disrespected when all the focus in the
Forefathers appeared to be on Jimmy’s success, while his own
career slumped. Storm prides himself in being a big game
player and this year has seen him lose the EPW tag team
titles and a #1 contenders match. Despite a serious rib
injury he put his body on the line for Jimmy at HOHW and was
slapped for his troubles.
While this may seem like a perplexing situation, it isn’t.
Both men were motivated by the selfish nature of
professional wrestling. They ditched their friends to get
ahead. As well as their motivation being the same, it
appears their current goal is the same. Beat Jimmy Payne for
the EPW championship.
PAYNE / HASTE HEADING TO THE CAGE
This issue needs to be dealt with in further detail so I
will only touch on it here. This was a tremendous decision
for all concerned. Inside a cage, Payne and Haste will be
able to fight it out without the thought of friends stabbing
them in the back. While the cage environment favours the
brawling style of the champion, the advantage goes to Haste
who no longer has to pin Jimmy to win the championship. More
on this situation as it develops.
BLOCK RECEIVES REMATCH FOR EPW TAG TEAM TITLES
At Hell or Highwater, Ferguson Block chose AZ Vegara as his
partner in his quest for EPW gold. This decision ended up
costing him as Vegara was the cause of Block losing to the
EPW tag team champions, the Fighting Hellfish.
However, after a review of the tape, Psychofett realised
that CJL was not the legal man in the match when he made the
match wining pin.
A quick trip to the Board of Directors later, and Block once
again became the #1 contender to the EPW tag team
championships. He has 6 months to take a shot at the titles
with a partner of his choice.
Exactly who and when remains to be seen.
Well there you go. It appears that big news regarding Winter
Warfare is just around the corner but until then, I am THE
INSIDER and you are not. |
