Hiding in the shadows of the Dynamite Factory, in amongst
the members and other interested parties lurked a man with
the answers to all the questions that matter. YES, it was I,
THE INSIDER.
The Rising Star Cup was conceived by the EPW Board as a way
of letting some of the newer and less experienced wrestlers
take centre stage to show what they could do. So a one
night, eight man single elimination tournament was set up to
see who was the best of the new crop.
As most of you would know, the Rising Star Cup was renamed
the ‘FN Carnage’ Rising Star Cup in honour of Carnage’s hard
work with training rookies at the Dynamite Factory since the
day it opened.
***Three EPW trainees made their debut at the Rising Star
Cup with varying degrees of success.
-Colonel Cooper was eliminated in the first round by Dan
Moore but not before bewildering everyone in attendance with
his wildly unpredictable behaviour. Cooper seemed to have a
sound understanding of the rules, and how to break them.
Although he was making his EPW debut, he showed the ring
smarts of a savvy ring veteran.
-Alex ‘the Kid’ Kingston was another rookie who was beaten
in the first round by the ‘Golden Greek’ Marcius
Pitsonopolous. Beaten but not disgraced, the youngster moved
around the ring like lightning. His high flying antics had
many EPW regulars recalling the debut of the current EPW
champion, Shane Haste. It appears that Haste himself has
taken a shine to the rookie and has offered to take him
under his wing. Keep your eye out for this Kid.
-Xander, literally and figuratively, was the biggest shock
of the night. This huge youngster laid out the returning
Rusty Evans before being disqualified against Dan Moore. He
has an aggressive streak a mile long which impressed many
but also led to his downfall. “He’s a big mean young fella,
that’s for sure,” said Carnage, who provided commentary for
the show. “But he needs to learn to control that rage.
Aggression can be a great weapon when harnessed correctly,
but it can also become your Achilles heel if you can’t.”
***Marcius Pitsonopolous proved on Saturday that he can
stand alone without the European Union. He also proved that
until he can put aside his brash and cocky nature, he can
always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
He had one hand on the Rising Star Cup before Dan Moore
grasped it with both hands. With Dan being injured by Xander,
this was Marcius’ match to lose. And he did.
***That’s to take nothing away from Dan Moore. He was a well
deserved winner of the inaugural ‘FN Carnage’ Rising Star
Cup. He had to face three different opponents with three
different styles. He was close to defeat so often that it
would have been easier to quit. But he fought on and emerged
the winner. Dan has been a massive success story in 2007. He
had made the difficult transition from referee to wrestler
with relative ease and has proven his worth as a competitor.
“Dan has more guts that 90% of the current roster,” Lukey
commented after the show. “He’s still working hard to
improve as a wrestler but as far as hearts go, Dan’s is as
big as anyones.”
So congratulations must go out to Dan Moore who has become
the first ever Rising Star Cup winner.
That’s all the news that fit to print. So says I, THE
