13/02/09 - The INSIDER Look at STORM vs RICHTER - Part 3

AFTERSHOCK

After examining both wrestlers I, THE INSIDER, will now take a thorough look at this match up and how it might well play out.

Amazingly, after almost eight years, this will be the very first time that Davis Storm and Richter have locked horns in a one on one match. However, over the past three months, these men have battled in the squared circle on two occasions.

Richter showed dominance over Storm and Bobby Marshall in the cage match at RE-AWAKENING 7. He threw both men around at will and it was not until they worked together that they were able to make a dent in the big man. For the first time in his career, Richter seemed to truly understand what a massive part his size could play in determining his success in EPW.

RE-AWAKENING also demonstrated Davis Storm’s ability to take a beating and still come out on top. Despite being battered and bruised, he walked away with the gold. This proved without a doubt that Storm is still the smartest wrestler on the EPW roster.

They faced each other again in a three way dance at Kristmas Kaos with Jay Taylor thrown in the mix this time. It has been reported that Storm actually asked for the non title match to be made. Again this proves how crafty the ‘Ironman’ could be. It was his chance to get a look at two men who are gunning for his championship without putting his title in jeopardy. Richter had Taylor beaten when Storm yakuza kicked him from the ring and won the match.

Richter suffered the frustration of defeat while Storm showed his mental edge yet again.

The Richter that Storm will face does not appear to be the same wrestler that has meandered through EPW for the last three years. He appears to have found his confidence and has a sense of purpose that has not been seen since he claimed the EPW championship in 2005.

Storm is set on becoming the greatest champion that EPW has ever seen. Already he has fought through injury to hang onto the gold and you sense that it will take an army to defeat this man.

The champion is the heavy favourite, and rightfully so. He has an ability to formulate a game plan and the will to see it through no matter what situation he finds himself in. With two recent outings with Richter under his belt (no pun intended) he has had plenty of exposure to his challenger and will be well prepared come February 21st.

Despite the champion’s moniker as the ‘Ironman’, I, THE INSIDER, see the edge going to Richter the longer the match goes. Since suffering a shattering loss to Mikey Nicholls in 2005, Richter’s main problem has been confidence. The longer he hangs with the EPW champion, the more he will feel like he belongs as the match goes on.
Davis Storm must end this match as quickly as possible because if it goes long enough, Richter may just realise that not only does he belong.

He could be champion.
