Sometimes a tick in the win column doesn’t mean a damn
thing. And other times, a wrestler can take as much away
from a loss as they could from a massive win.
EVOLUTION
was an amazing weekend of wrestling action but now that the
smoke has cleared, who REALLY won at
EVOLUTION?
It’s time for some in depth analysis from I, THE INSIDER.
WINNERS
RICHTER / RICK SANDERS / DEVLIN REEVES
In a weekend of shocks, these three provided the biggest
one. Rick Sanders revealed himself to be a crazed mastermind
as he singlehandedly transformed the frustration of two EPW
stalwarts into championship gold. Sanders has kept a low
profile since returning this year but in one fell swoop, he
returned himself to the top of the EPW tree. Devlin has
regained a sense of purpose as he now belongs to the most
powerful stable within this organization. And the big man
Richter may finally dominate EPW in the fashion that many
have expected him to since he started in 2001. This will be
a group to watch in 2009 and beyond.
DAN MOORE / CHASE GRIFFIN
When is a loss actually a victory? When you wrestle out of
your skin and perform at a level that you never have
previously, in a stunning match of the year candidate,
that’s when! These two may not hold a victory over the Blitz
Team but they backed up their night one performance with a
win over Team All Star on night two and have plenty of
momentum on their side coming out of EVOLUTION. These two
are at the highest point of their careers and need to build
on that in the coming months.
KRACKERJAK / CARLO CANNON / SLEX
Their goal was to utilize surprise and confusion to sneak in
and put a hurting on EPW. And believe me, the locker room is
hurting from the sight of two men they despise coming in and
stealing the EPW tag team titles at one of the year’s
biggest shows. EPW management was keen to keep Slex away
from Perth after his disgraceful behaviour in April. He has
now embarrassed everyone by becoming a champion of the
company that has publicly stated that he is not welcome
here. EPW are now forced to meet Slex on his terms. As for
Krackerjak, never before have we seen a man like this in
this state. His wild, unpredictable and violent nature has
sent a shockwave through the locker room. A man who tries to
smother Bobby Marshall with a plastic bag is not the type of
man wrestlers line up to face. Krackerjak has injected a
poison into the EPW locker room that could provide the
Melbourne trio with the most valuable weapon of all. Fear.
LOSERS
BLITZ TEAM
In 24 hours, this team went from being on a path to becoming
the greatest EPW tag team champions in history, to former
champs. The performance of these two men in the tables match
was phenomenal. Alex Kingston took his game to another level
while Haste showed the grit and determination that he is
renowned for. But the next night, Shane’s legendary thirst
for competition saw them baited into a situation that they
should never have been in. After the punishment they took on
night one, it was foolish to step into a match with two top
caliber wrestlers like Slex and Carlo and sadly it has cost
them, and EPW, the tag team championships.
JOSE DEL SANTO
Just two months ago, Brad West offered Del Santo a place as
Team All Star’s #1 draft pick for 2009. He declined that
offer. It has cost him. At EVOLUTION, he faced the man who
did become the #1 draft pick, Michael Morleone. Jose has
improved dramatically in the past nine months and appeared
to be on the verge of the biggest victory of his career on
several occasions on Saturday night. The difference between
victory and defeat was the very group that he spurned, Team
All Star. They handed the Don a victory over Del Santo just
when defeat seemed imminent. Tough weekend for the Mexican.
JONATHON WIMBLEDON
After his bust up with Marcius Pitsonopolous on Friday, who
the hell is going to do his dirty work now??
