Mr Dooley, we're just days away
from EPW's Vendetta and we don't see your name listed on the
card of matches. Is it fair to say that the People's Tramp is
having a night off in the leadup to the big dance in November?
It's funny in EPW... the times when
you think you're going to have a relaxing night, you almost
always end up under the bright lights. With the EPW board being
represented by Dancin Lukey and Jack Burbank, I think the card
can change at anytime.. so believe me.. I'll be ready to fight
if there is a need to. However, I'm hoping for a quiet evening
to enjoy the show.
It's been a massive last few
months for you Nate... we've seen you host EPW's very first talk
show and then saw that show stolen by Slick Rick Sanders in a
feud which has escalated into one of the most memorable this
federation has seen. It will no doubt culminate at Re-Awakening
with the loser having to leave EPW for ever. Can you talk us
through the events that have lead us to this place?
Yeah absolutely. I was thrilled
to bits when the EPW board came to me and asked me to host our
very first talk show. The show was designed to add a bit of
pazazz to the EPW pre-show and give the fans a closer look at
some of the happenings inside our federation. The pilot episode
was brilliant - Soulman was in beautiful form behind the scenes
and I had the pleasure of sharing the ring with James Street.
Ahem!... we just talked. I think the fans really dug the show
and the response from the guys backstage was great.. so much so
that Colonel Sanders was obviously jealous...
That leads us to the debut
show of Slick Rick's Brat Chat.. you were obviously fired up?
Without a doubt... but I wasn't
angry... I was just, disappointed. You see, Slick Rick Sanders
basically get's everything he wants. He's managed champions,
tasted glory, tasted champions.. he's done it all this year. I
couldn't understand why he wanted to take over my lil ol' chat
show. But then I realised it's all about ego.
And we know Slick Rick
Sanders has one of the largest egos in Australian wrestling...
For sure.. he's to ego what
Brock Freeman is to...
Nuts! You must've thought
Slick Rick was nuts to steal your show.. but you had to expect
him to decline your challenge?
You know what.. I actually
thought he'd say 'yes'. Like I said, it's all about ego. I gave
Slick Rick Sanders a chance to wrestle me in the middle of the
EPW ring. He had a 50-50 chance of defeating Nate Dooley in his
first ever EPW match.. if anything would make his Jurah go hard,
that would be it.
This brings us to Collision
Course 2004 - fans settled in their seats for another episode of
Slick Rick's Brat Chat.. but they received a welcomed surprise
in the form of a tight-panted, shiny-shirted, flour-sniffing
tramp.
I wanted my show back.. so I did
exactly what Slick Rick did - I stole his show. I dubbed in
'Crap Chat' but could only get a couple of sentences out before
Sanders and his security goons entered the ring. Although short,
Crap Chat did exactly what I wanted it to do... it gave me a
slight chance of wrestling Colonel Sanders.
Slick Rick laid out the
challenge... defeat Jamie Jurah... defeat Devlin Reeves - beat
the Brat Pack in a handicap match and you'd have your match with
him. It was an un-winable situation for you... but as history
will show, Nate Dooley emerged the victor.
I'd like to think it was by
sheer skill, determination and ability. But I realise it is
solely because Slick Rick Sanders is a moron. Rick slid in the
chair that knocked out Devlin Reeves.. he powdered the face of
Jamie Jurah.. and he was the one flying over the top rope and
watching on the wood-floor as I defeated his charges. But it
didn't end there... Out-smart the man and you win the battle...
embarrass the man and you win the war.
You covered the entire ringside area and front four rows in
sticky water and feathers!?!
I swear to god I was aiming for
Rick.
You nearly ruined EPW's
ringside mats, absolutely totalled the Community Centre's floor,
annoyed several fans and left EPW security was a massive clean
up job. But, you did push Rick Sanders to do something
absolutely no-one saw coming, not even you!
It was a shock, and it basically
took the fun away from seeing him look like a massive chicken.
I'll go on record as saying I wanted to wrestle Slick Rick
Sanders to take back what was rightfully mine - my 'Talking
Trash' talk show. I didn't want to put my career here in EPW on
the line. Slick Rick took the microphone and challenged me, in
the same way I had challenged him earlier in the year. I would
be nothing but a hypocrite if I declined. And besides, I've
never been afraid to gamble at Re-Awakening. 2002, I lost
control of Explosive Pro Wrestling to the Uprising. I spent over
nine months watching on as my federation was destroyed by that
cancer. I carried that burden through-out last year and I
carried that burden to the top of a ladder at Re-Awakening 2003.
What does Re-Awakening 2004
hold for you?
No other show in Australian
wrestling carries a legacy like Perth's Re-Awakening... and 2004
will be nothing short of memorable. The fact of the matter is
that this year's Re-Awakening will be the last time EPW will see
Slick Rick Sanders or the Vagrant - Nate Dooley. For me, that's
emotional... but that's exactly what fuels this federation and
that's exactly what you're going to see at Re-Awakening. |
