The
long awaited clash between these two men finally took place at Evolution 2004. The match
started off at a slower pace with Jag trying to assert his authorityby taking Mikey to the
mat. But Mikey showed that he was more than up to the task, as he not only matched Jag
hold for hold, but managed to take control of the bout. This did not please Jag who
unleashed a brutal flurry of forearms that rocked Mikey.
The pace picked up when the action spilled to the outside. Jag draped Mikey over the
guardrail and went for his 2nd rope legdrop. But when he went for the legdrop, Mikey moved
and Jag went flying into the guardrail. ‘The Rising Star’ then returned fire by
nailing a 2nd rope legdrop to the outside. He threw Jag back into the ring and hit a
massive top rope huracanrana that had the crowd on their feet.
Mikey
then took the battle to the floor one more time. This time it didn’t pay off. As he
went for a asai moonsault, Jag pulled his leg out form under him. Mikey’s shoulder
and head smashed into the concrete floor. The referee backed Jag away while the paramedics
attended to him. The paramedics refused to let Mikey continue despite him insisting he
could go on. The fans gave Mikey a well-deserved ovation as he left.
