| Last years winner was looking to defend his crown against a constant
thorn in his side, in Brad West. West was looking to take that one last step up the
ladder, to complete a sensational rise in the year 2003. This match was the wrestling
highlight of the evening, with both men turning in a sensational performance. This match showed a contrast of the two combatants styles. Brad stuck
to his technical wrestling while Carnage employed a pounding style of offense. He
continually went back to choking Brad and trying to slow the match down as much as
possible. This strategy may have shown a lack of confidence in the EPW champion. Perhaps
he felt that he could not put wrestle Brad.
No matter what the reasoning behind his tactics, he
dominated the majority of the match. He never let Brad wrest the advantage away from him
for too long by employing dirty tactics to stay in control. An attempt at a Rad Driver by
Brad had Carnage scurrying for cover before he took charge on the outside.
A superplex from West bought him some time to allow a
fightback. He cut Carnage off on the ropes and hit the Rad Driver. Carnage just got his
shoulder up on two to keep the match alive. He quickly reversed another Rad Driver attempt
into his finsher, the piledriver. He was too tired to cover Brad immediately and by the
time he did, West managed to barely kick out.
A Rad Driver from Carnage got him another two count
and his frustration was beginning to show. Desparate to end the match he called for his
EPW title and nailed Brad while Slick Rick distracted the ref. Brad refused to quit and
kicked out yet again. Carnage then missed a second rope moonsault and West hit a michinoku
driver to become the 3rd EPW Invitational champion. His tag team partner Justin Sane then
hit the ring to celebrate with him. |
