12/08/03 - The History Between Davis Storm & Xeriyous Blade
Davis Storm
VS Xeriyous Blade

Why did Xeriyous Blade turn his back on his best friend Davis Storm. This story has a very deep and complicated past. To understand it all we will have to go back in time and take a look at where this surprising twist emanated from.

Davis Storm and Xeriyous Blade started out together at EPW’s first event, Awakening. Blade showed his willingness to sacrifice himself to help achieve his goals. He laid down in order for Storm to get a free ride to the second round of the tournament. Blade then spent the rest of the tournament accompanying Davis to the ring. And he certainly was not above getting involved in the matches. By Davis Storm’s own admission, he may not have got to where he did in the tournament without Blade’s help. Whether or not Storm won the tournament was irrelevant to these two. They had achieved their objective. They had made an impact and they were seen as major players in EPW.

Then inexplicably, at Redemption, they had gone their separate ways. Not much was made of this on screen. It seemed bizarre to most fans and insiders. These two had worked so well together at Awakening. What would make them go their separate ways so early on in EPW’s history?

Now as a person close to EPW, I get a chance to see a lot of the back stage goings on and I am privileged to get a chance to try and understand what goes on inside the heads of the EPW wrestlers and staff.

But to see things backstage just made this all the more confusing. Off screen, nothing had changed. They still hung out backstage together, arrived at the event together and worked out together. People inside EPW thought there had been a falling out between the two but this was clearly not the case.

Still you could not say that their parting of the ways hurt either of their careers. Blade went on that night to form the Uprising and begin his assault on EPW. Storm was in a match for the EPW title that he would claim only a few months later.

Nothing changed, even as Storm became more popular with the fans. The two could still be seen hanging out together at events and discussing EPW and where it was heading. Things did become a little strained when Blade had Azazal offer Storm a place in the Uprising. But after Storm turned down the offer and the Uprising took control of EPW, everything seemed to return to normal.

Even the problems between Azazal and Davis did not seem to sour the friendship of Blade and Storm. Nor should it have. These two had been the best of friends for over 10 years. They had dreamt of being involved in wrestling for even longer than that. The fact that he was also a regular training partner of Mikey’s would have blinded him even further.

Blade and Storm seemed to have made a pact to not get involved in each other’s business after they split. Storm had said repeatedly that it was hard to sit by and do nothing while he watched some of the actions of The Uprising. He even got involved once, when he saved the Vagrant from having his career ended at the hands of Azazal. He had wanted to step in more often but felt that he could not due to the pact he and Blade had made. Their friendship was more important to him than the future of EPW.

The attack on Storm at Hell or Highwater must have come as a big surprise to him. He thought that he was doing Blade a favour by having Azazal banished from the Uprising. He was lucky to survive that attack due to the timely interference of Jimmy Payne and the returning Vagrant.

And their friendship was no doubt just as important to Blade. Without it, he could not have manipulated Storm so easily. Storm stayed out of the Uprising/EPW battles to honour his pledge to his friend. You can guarantee that all bets are off now. Storm is furious that his so-called ‘best friend’ has betrayed him and is out for revenge at any cost. But has Blade wound Storm up so much that he will not be able to control his emotions. If Davis can not think straight, he may be led straight into another Uprising trap.

One that he may not walk away from.
