19/08/03 - Overview of EPW's Inner Turmoil
With Inner Turmoil less than one week away, it is time for us to take a closer look at the card.

Psychofett v Chris Lazareth

An interesting battle to say the least. Chris Lazareth is one of EPW’s newest wrestlers, while Psychofett is one of the most established wrestlers in Perth. Lazareth has shown himself to be a cunning ring tactician despite his lack of experience. He will stoop to almost any tactic in order to try and register a victory. Lazareth will lure his opponents into situations where they are vunerable and he can strike. Psychofett is a perennial fan favourite who uses the ring as his playground. He is sometimes passed off as a joker, but make no mistake. Psychofett is a well-trained and technically sound wrestler who could beat almost anyone in EPW when on his game. He has had his problems with Brock Freeman recently but if he can concentrate on the task at hand he should pick up a victory here.

Brock Freeman v Jimmy Payne

‘The American Nightmare’ faces ‘Mr Anarchy’. Brock Freeman’s change of heart towards the fans has seen him become more intense than he has been in the past. But it has also seen him lose his focus more often during his matches. He seems to care less about winning and more about humiliating his opponents and taunting the fans. But Jimmy would not be taking Freeman lightly. Brock is one of the finest athletes in EPW and it would be hard for Jimmy to match his conditioning and stamina. That said, Payne lost the EPW title at Hell or Highwater thanks to Azazal. Jimmy will be looking to send a message to all, that title or not, he will be a force in EPW. Payne is a former EPW champion, Invitational champion and quite possibly one of the finest wrestlers in Australia today. I wouldn’t want to face Jimmy Payne on the rampage anytime soon. A tough assignment for Freeman.

Richter v Devlin Reeves

Can Devlin’s antics throw Richter off his game? He had better hope so. Richter is the largest competitor in Explosive Pro Wrestling and would also be one of the most feared. His offense is high impact and when he lifts you up and drops you from 6 foot 4 in the air, your landing is rarely very comfortable. Devlin Reeves is an absolute showboat. He doesn’t know the meaning of the word modesty. If you looked up ego in the dictionary, there would be Devlin, lips pouting and muscles (ahem) flexed no doubt. But his antics have been known to get under the skin of wrestlers from time to time. While Devlin is a clever and underrated wrestler, he had better hope that he can throw Richter’s focus. If he can’t, it may be a short and painful night for ‘The Playboy’.

Azazal v Shane Haste

Shane Haste has been a rookie sensation of 2003. He first came onto the scene at The Uprising event in February and has been a crowd favourite ever since. His fast paced and energetic style has seen him become something of a cult hero. But he will face the toughest challenge of his young career at this event. He will face the EPW chairman Azazal. Azazal has always been placed in the upper echelon of EPW wrestlers. He has been amongst the top five wrestlers (Rankings) in EPW since its inception. And if you add to that, the support of The Uprising and his recent win over Davis Storm, Azazal will be incredibly hard to stop. His powerful style of wrestling will be a stark contrast to Haste’s high flying. Haste will have to take a chance in this bout to go home with the victory. But it is that sort of chance that could provide Azazal with a chance to cut the youngster down. Whatever the outcome, this will be an interesting clash of styles.

 Mikey v Anda Nothica

The Uprising’s Rising Star will face off against the ‘Human Highlight Reel’ in what promises to be an exciting encounter. Both men are known for their high flying and daredevil style of offense. These two have faced each other in tag team and six man competition before, but have never battled in a singles bout. Nothica will be facing a much larger opponent in Mikey but that would be nothing new to him. The smallest athlete in EPW has been fighting the odds ever since he first started wrestling. His risk taking offense has been the major reason for both his successes and his losses. He will need to hit the target more often than not to stand a chance against Mikey. One of EPW’s finest wrestlers, Mikey is as nasty as he is talented and has shown with his recent actions that he is not above using dirty tactics to reach his goals. He is the Uprising’s ace in the hole and they will be looking to him to put Nothica away in this match. But Nothica has beaten men bigger than Mikey and can not be underestimated.

TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH : 2 out of 3 Falls
The Brat Pack ( c ) v The Serial Thrillas

These teams have met once before. The Brat Pack defeated Justin and Brad on the way to winning the tag team titles at Evolution. But Brad and Justin were wrestling only their second match together. Since then, they have had the chance to train together as a team for the last few months. They also wrestled and defeated BobbyBadBlood and Chris Lazareth to become the #1 contenders to the tag team titles.

The Brat Pack have been on a serious roll this year. F.N. Carnage has not been defeated this year. It has almost been 12 months since he was last beaten. He beat Jimmy Payne, with some considerable assistance, for the EPW Title. Jamie Jurah is amongst EPW’s most improved wrestlers in 2003 and together they won a 8 team tournament to become the very first EPW tag team champions.

To say that beating the Brat Pack is a challenge is an understatement. They are two of the best in EPW and when you add their manager, Slick Rick Sanders, to the mix, that just makes the challenge even harder. But Justin Sane and Brad West have fought hard to climb the mountain in EPW. Brad West’s very first match in EPW was a title match but he evolved as a wrestlers since then and he is now part of a tag team that are a serious threat to the tag titles. Sane’s re-emergence as a top wrestler in this federation has been timed well with West’s rise as a top wrestler. There could not be a better time for these two to challenge the Brat Pack. West and Sane will not go into this match as the favourites, but they are in with a chance. Now they have to take that chance and make it a reality.
