29/08/03 - Tournament Format for Invitational Announced
Interesting, would have to be the way to describe the format for this year’s Invitational Tournament. Like last year, the tournament will actually start at the event before Re-Awakening. So Out of Control will host the first rounds of the tournament and Re-Awakening will play host to the semi-finals and finals.

Every year so far, EPW have approached the tournament in a different manner. The first Invitational saw 16 men do battle in a regular tournament format. Jimmy Payne defeated Davis Storm in the final.

2002 Invitational Champion

Last year saw a mixed bag of qualifying matches including a three way dance and a battle royal. F.N. Carnage won the battle royal at Retribution. He then went on to defeat Anda Nothica and Brock Freeman in the same night at Re-Awakening and claim the invitational trophy.

Well another unique idea has been used to kick off this year’s tournament. 12 men will take part in the quarter finals. How do we fit 12 men into four matches and wind up with only four men advancing on to the semi finals? Quite easily.

The quarter finals will all be held as three way dances with double eliminations. That is, three competitors will do battle at the same time. Wrestlers are eliminated by pinfall, submission , count out or disqualification until only one is left. That winner will go on to the semi finals of the Invitational tournament.

Brackets for the tournament will be decided at the in-house show to be held on the 6th of September. It will be interesting to see who comes up against each other in this tournament.
