10/12/03 - Statement from the controlling Body of EPW
Explosive Pro Wrestling (Formerly Explosive Coastal Wrestling Perth) made its public debut in November of 2001. To say that it took a lot of hard work to get EPW to where it was in November of 2002 would be an understatement. Within 12 months, EPW made great strides towards becoming a great place for wrestlers to come and give their all for the great wrestling fans of Perth.

Unfortunately, we took a huge risk in November of 2002. A group known as the Uprising had grown to be quite a force within EPW. We felt that it was necessary to try and force this group to disband. They offered to do so if one of their members, Azazal, lost to the then EPW commissioner, The Vagrant, at last year’s Re-Awakening. In return, if Azazal won, the Uprising would take control of our federation. We had great confidence that we would be victorious in this battle.

We clearly underestimated the Uprising’s unity and they won the match and seized control of Explosive Pro Wrestling.

The past twelve months have been extremely tough for all involved with EPW, especially those who had been there right from the beginning. In the words of the Vagrant, this once proud federation had been turned in to nothing more than a three-man ego trip. The Uprising used their power to further their own needs and not the needs of the federation or its fans.

It seemed as if all was lost until Hell or Highwater. Three important things happened that evening. None of these occurrences were really related but there was one thing that bound them all together. Jimmy Payne lost the EPW title to FN Carnage in an interference-laden match. The Vagrant returned and was defeated in controversial fashion by Mikey. And Davis Storm had his best friend, Xeriyous Blade, stab him in the back and cost him his match with Azazal.

But there is a saying that sometimes you have to lose everything before you can win anything. On this night, these three men, and EPW were stripped of everything they had left. The Uprising had taken everything from them….Except for their pride. Their pride in themselves and their pride in EPW.

At within one event, the fightback was underway. The wrestlers loyal to Explosive Pro Wrestling banded together under the name of Team EPW. And their message was heard loud and clear at Inner Turmoil.

When wrestlers poured from the back to defend Davis Storm in the main event of Inner Turmoil, they weren’t just evening the odds. They were saying that they were ready to fight the Uprising and anyone who supported them. They took control of the ring and stood together in a show of strength. To anyone who was there, you would know that this was one of the most emotional moments of this year. The word was out…..The war wasn’t over….It was only just beginning.

It seemed that three wrestlers stood forward as the leaders of this pack. Davis Storm, the Vagrant and Jimmy Payne. The Serial Thrillas were there at Out Of Control to help even the odds but it seemed as if these three had been chosen to fight for Team EPW.

And fight they did at Re-Awakening. The Uprising and Team EPW were ready for one last battle. There was no doubt that whichever team lost this match, would have trouble recovering from that loss. For over 40 minutes, all three of these men brutalized each other in an attempt to win the match and the war. In the end it took the Vagrant to come crashing off the top of a ladder to put Azazal through a table and hopefully, end the threat of the Uprising once and for all.

They say that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. Now that we have control of EPW again, we will NEVER again put up control of this federation. The price we paid was too steep to justify ever doing it again. No matter how dire the situation we will find another way to deal with it.

Now, to deal with a question that has been constantly asked since Re-Awakening. Who will be the new EPW Chairman? Well the answer at this stage is………nobody. We are yet to find anyone to take the position. We do not want a wrestler to take the position as there is too much conflict of interest as we saw with Azazal. Instead we have decided to from a board of people involved with the decision making for EPW. So there will be a board formed that involves EPW front office staff, EPW wrestlers and referees. They will make the decisions that relate to wrestling NOT business. We have appointed Dancin Lukey to be the spokesman of this board.

We look forward to getting the focus back on the wrestling instead of the individuals who run this federation. 2004 should be a fantastic year. We are looking at some new exciting concepts in the way we present our shows and are also looking at bringing some of the amazing talent that this country has to offer, over to Perth. We hope to see you all at the shows.
