23/07/04 - Interview : Richter

Richter, thank you for granting this interview. You’ve had an up and down twelve months. How would you describe your progress?

For too long I’ve drifted with too many distractions on my mind. My confidence faded and I would dwell only on the negative and not move on. My head is now clear and I am focused on making this my impact year. I am stronger then ever and feel more ready for action with each passing day.

You are known as a man of few words but over the course of the last 12 months, we have seen you become increasingly emotional during your wrestling. What do you credit this too?

I am slow to anger. In general it takes a lot of small things to get under my skin, but, once there, it works on me to a point where I cannot take any more and I explode. Rarely do others see it coming. Bottling my emotions and having no release for them is sometimes a problem. But lately, I have channeled that anger into power during my matches, with much success thus far.

In a recent message board post you were listed as one of EPW’s most underrated wrestlers. How does the label underrated make you feel?

I have noted the steady-growing support from the crowd for me at each show and it is encouraging that people are acknowledging my efforts. In some ways perhaps I slip under the radar. Much of wrestling today seems to be a popularity contest of good looks or catchphrases, but I like to think that slowly I am making a mark of my own.

Now you have a huge match coming up at Collision Course with the former EPW champion FN Carnage. Are you merely seeking revenge or did you have other reasons for seeking this match?

Revenge is only the start of what I have in store for Carnage at Collision Course. I’ve faced him once in a tag match and he ducked me. Since then, he cost me a sure victory over Jamie Jurah by knocking me through a table. Stuff like that makes it hard to forgive a man. Recently, he ruined my bid for the #1 contender’s spot in the Gauntlet Match by hitting me in the face with the very title belt that was my goal. I take that as a slap in the face. This is not going to be a 15 round technical battle. You aren’t going to see anything pretty and I’m making it deadly clear to all that this will be a straight-up fight. He calls himself the hardest-hitting man in EPW, and that is a reputation I dispute.

Looking forward, will you be seeking a spot in the EPW Invitational tournament?

Though it is a treacherous path, I see no other clear way to the title. Being a tournament, backstabbing and cheating is rife. Every wrestler involved in the tournament is looking on inflicting maximum pain and avoiding as much of it on their end so as to better their chance at survival. Unfortunately for whoever stands across from me in that ring, their choices are limited. Get beaten into the ground, or don’t show up in the first place.

Other than that, what are your short term goals in EPW?

Defeating Carnage is first and foremost. He is a yardstick in EPW, and as the former champion I see no better opponent to test my will. Successfully entering the ReAwakening Tournament for the first time in almost 3 years is next on my agenda.. Thirdly but possibly most important, improving myself in all aspects of wrestling.

Richter we wish you the best of luck for Collision Course, the rest of the year and beyond.

Thank you.
