Davis Storm has had a tough
year in 2004. He set himself the task of removing the EPW title
from around FN Carnage’s waist. Unfortunately for him, he was
unable to reach that goal. We caught up with him just a few days
after RE-AWAKENING.
Davis Storm, thanks for granting us this time to speak. First
of all, how are you?
I’ve been better. My neck is killing me after that inverted
piledriver from Carnage. And of course, I’m damn disappointed
that I couldn’t win the EPW title. I set myself the goal of
winning it this year and I sure as hell didn’t get the job done.
No wrestler worth a damn can say that they are happy when they
don’t achieve their goals.
Adding the loss to the ledger, is it safe to assume you had a
very emotional RE-AWAKENING?
We said goodbye to one of our friends. As I said on the night,
the list of guys who have been here since the beginning is
getting shorter and shorter and I can’t help but feel that it
isn’t a good thing. Although we don’t all get along, we share
the bond of being the first wrestlers involved in Perth
wrestling in the modern era. Each time one of these originals
disappears, it’s like a piece of what we mean dies with it.
But that aside, you seemed to be on edge all night. You took
Dancin’ Lukey’s expulsion very personally. You got into a
physical confrontation with Jack Burbank. And you nearly beat
the hell out of head referee Dan after the tag team title…..
(cutting in) Hang on a second. Let me ask you something. You’ve
been involved here for a while. Didn’t you think it was a stupid
decision to remove Lukey from RE-AWAKENING? To remove the best
commentator in Australia from the biggest EPW show of 2004. You
didn’t find that odd?
Of course it was odd but you seemed to almost lose control.
Maybe I did. Look, this topic really gets me upset. RE-AWAKENING
is something that took a lot of hard work, effort and sacrifice
to build. I’ve been here since day one. So has Lukey. While we
don’t always see eye to eye but I will back him when a
bureaucratic piece of s*#t like Burbank is trying to ruin what
we helped build. Same with Justin Sane. He was screwed out of
those tag titles and noone gave a crap. Earlier this year I was
stripped of the EPW title due to some political B.S. I take it
more than a little personally to see it happen to another guy
who has worked his ass off for three years to make this fed what
it is today.
Fair enough. You must now be looking forward to Survival of
the Fittest where you will face Jag in a 60 minute Iron Man
Match?
Damn right. I won’t be ambushed like last time. I made an open
challenge at VENDETTA but I sure as hell didn’t expect Jag. I
guess I have my good mate Jack Burbank and the EPW Board of
directors to thank for that surprise.
This match means more to me than anything I have ever taken on
in my career. I’ve been one on one in the ring with Jag on 3
separate occasions and I’ve come up short every time. I know I
can win this match. I don’t think for a second that I am a
better all round wrestler than Jag but I know deep down that I
can beat him. I will put absolutely everything into this match.
I will train like I have never trained before. I will be
prepared and there will be no excuses this time. I’ve got this
one last chance to prove that I belong amongst the elite in
Australian wrestling. I’ve staked my career on this. If I can’t
win, I don’t know where I will go from there. I simply have to
win.
Any last words?
Let me just say that there are some people in EPW management
with their priorities all screwed up. They need to take a look
at the way they are running things. Respect and loyalty seem to
be forgotten qualities in 2004. I hope things don’t continue
down that path in 2005.
Davis Storm thanks for your time.
