EPW News & Rumours

01/03/05 - Truely 'Playing for Keeps'...

When questioned about the most influential group in the history of Explosive Pro Wrestling, you could not look past the Uprising. Their unashamed brutality and unquenchable desire to control this federation saw them terrorise both fans and EPW staff for well over two years. But, there's an old adage in this sport that to have the power, you have to have the gold and no group of wrestlers in this state have captured more gold than the Brat Pack.

In our memories, the Uprising dominated this federation both in the office, and in the ring. But none have owned the rankings and record books like FN Carnage, Jamie Jurah, Devlin Reeves and the single most influential man in the history of this company; Slick Rick Sanders.

At Evolution 2003, the Brat Pack held every single title this federation offers; the EPW title, the EPW tag team titles and the EPW Invitational tournament's trophy. Now, as we fast approach Evolution 2005, the Brat Pack is a shell of it's former self. At Survival of the Fittest, we saw the cracks begin to show.

This was EPW's first show for the year 2005 and it was an almighty hangover for the Brat Pack after the group was decimated at Re-Awakening '04. Many had considered the team of Jamie Jurah and Devlin Reeves the red hot favourites to walk away from the Tag Team Tables match with the gold that looks at home side by side with the '68' of a blue and white jersey. However, this was not the same Brat Pack that defeated the super-team of Davis Storm and Jimmy Payne for the straps a year earlier. As we would all go on to witness, this Brat Pack barely walked out of Re-Awakening at all.

The new version of the Brat Pack to launch an assault on the EPW tag title ranks is, or should we say 'was', a formidable one. Jamie Jurah is a scholar of this sport, who's wrestling arsenal is as ferocious and feared as any in EPW. Despite his small stature, he's clearly the brawn of this team. Fans may scoff to see that Devlin Reeves is the brains but retrospect will prove them all wrong. Whether we like to admit it or not, Reeves fooled us all. The same smiling 'playboy' that left Re-Awakening 2003 covered in Diet Coke and slapping hands was the same smiling 'playboy' to tear off the Super Team Devlin shirt and smash his massive bicep over the jaw of his so-called friend and tag team partner Psychofett. Quote Keyser Soze; "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world that he didn't exist."

Surely the new Brat Pack would be an improved one. If not for one small fact. The person who Devlin Reeves was replacing was F.N Carnage. Since 2001, this veteran of Explosive Pro Wrestling has captured titles, trophies and the respect of all the fans and Perth wrestlers alike. Carnage has engaged in some of EPW's most memorable battles and has beaten some of the best this country has to offer. But, it took a striking boot to the jaw to pin his shoulders to the mat and see the last piece of the Brat Pack's title dynasty torn away by current EPW champion Mikey.

Perhaps while dissention was rampant amongst the stable, the Brat Pack's first dramatic sign of decay came when Slick Rick Sanders delivered his R-ic-K-O to Devlin Reeves after his retirement fate was sealed at Re-Awakening '04. Reeves publicly berated Rick for losing this match and with the emotion that only a Re-Awakening can give you, Rick had enough of Reeves and enough of the Brat Pack.

Survival of the Fittest was a far cry from a Brat Pack whose familiar pose of raising one another's hands in victory was traded with swinging fists at one another's heads. Jamie Jurah's world is filled with envy and greed, a world of fiction. He claims to be the Brat Pack's leader and at March 12th's 'Playing for Keeps' will fight his fellow members to prove it.

Devlin Reeves is attempting to provide the voice of reason, stating that if he is victorious at the next event, the Brat Pack stay together and fight as the unit they once were, keeping his dream of EPW gold alive with the help of his devious brethren.

F.N Carnage is fed up with the Pack. After years of sneak attacks and snide tactics, he now realises that it has led to somewhat cheapened sense of success. He knows that he has the ability to see the same success fighting on his own and by the rules.

At the next Explosive Pro Wrestling show, the winner of the three-way-dance has the final say on the future of this stable. But after all of the events that have transpired in the recent past, one could never see the Brat Pack reaching the same heights again. However, if we look at history, this may all be a devious game by the Brat Pack. Either way, on March 12th, all three members will be 'Playing for Keeps'.
