"Never mind the Logies - this is
f**kin awesome!" |
In the midst of an action-packed night one of Evolution 2005,
the show came to a halt as 'Gentleman' Jack Burbank directed
attention to Nate Dooley as he stood in the ring capturing the
jam-packed Cockman Pavilion's attention. Dooley begun with a
short explanation on the reasoning for the creation of EPW; "to
bring wrestling to a place that didn't have any wrestling... and
to bring Australian back to mainstream popularity..." Dooley
unusually tripped over his words, stating that he was nervous.
This, wrestling fans, had to be big.
"And it makes it (bringing wrestling back to mainstream
popularity) alot easier when you have certain people on board...
certain... famous people on board." "Certain... Gold Logie
winners on board... " And with that, the entire Pavilion burst
into one the loudest pops this federation has seen. They knew
what, or who, was coming. "..when you have ROVE MCMANUS on
board!"
And with that, the most popular figure on Australian television
strolled through the brand new EPW entrance way and down the
ramp to meet his adoring Perth fans. The noise was deafening and
fans outreached their hands to meet that of Australian showbiz
royalty, with some attempting to take a quick picture on their
mobile phone as the star of Channel 10's Rove Live entered the
ring.
The crowd continued to cheer as Rove bounced around in the ring,
surely just as pleased to be inside a wrestling ring as the fans
who clambered around it's outside. McManus hit the ropes and
raised his arms in the air, a sign echoed by the entire crowd.
Whether you love the good guys in EPW, cheer for the bad guys or
don't really yell at all... this man had captured the entire
crowd and they were on their feet.
Nate, exclaiming that this was something he had wanted to do for
a long time, handed the microphone over to Rove and asked him to
address "his people".
And to quote the great man... "Never mind the Logies - this is
f**kin awesome!"
Rove told the crowd that he was a massive EPW fan, and that he
had been keeping up the latest happenings in the promotion and
was very thankful that he was allowed to be a part of such a
great show. The crowd was ecstatic as Dooley told Rove that
although he had seen alot of EPW, he hadn't seen the actions of
the self proclaimed 'King of Perth Radio' Lukey and the 'Ironman'
Davis Storm at our last event 'Flame or Fortune'. Rove agreed
but stated that he had heard exactly what had happened and he
was ready to confront them about it. With that, Dancin' Lukey
entered to the theme 'Bad Boys for Life' which, considering the
people who enter to it, could be the greatest paradox in
wrestling with the possible of exception of ''Johnny Wimbledon'
and 'winner' - (see: Night 2). Lukey sauntered down to ringside
to meet Rove in the confrontation that wrestling fans across the
country thought would never happen. And with something that had
never happened in the four year history of this federation,
Lukey had met his match with microphone in hand. As Lukey pushed
the Gold Logie winner, Rove shoved the 929 star down and
verbally tore strips of the Dancin one, eventually challenging
him to a match much to the delight of the salivating crowd.
Lukey, taking a leaf out of the Ironman's booked, cowardly
declined and exiting the ring and Rove continued his verbal
barrage.
Luke backed his way up the Evolution aisle as several ringside
fan's joined in Rove McManus's challenge to fight him there
tonight. As the coward fled, he was met with resistance from the
Red Dragon who paraded Lukey back to the ring to the awaiting
McManus. However, Lukey again escaped certain humiliation as a
doo-rag clad Davis Storm made the save, beating down Psychofett
and allowing Luke and Rove to remain at ringside. In a very even
contest, fans were clearly behind the Red Dragon as he came
close to victory several times before underhanded tactics
captured the victory for Davis Storm.
But the confrontation that all in attendance, both in front and
behind the curtain craved, occurred after the match when a
save-making Brad West joined the 'Roving Dragons' in putting
Storm, Lukey and Xeriyous Blade in simultaneous figure-four
leglocks as the Founding Fathers of this promotion writhed in
agony. McManus also laid Xeriyous Blade out with a DDT and the
EPW fans went ballistic.
Lukey crawled to the commentary table where he told a leaving
McManus that this was not over... an invitation that the Gold
Logie winner only quickly accepted.
