24/06/05 - Evolution 2005 fallout

Time to take a look at the fall out from Evolution 2005. Once again, Evolution proved to be an amazing weekend of wrestling action that had plenty of twists and turns. It also saw the most shocking conclusion to an EPW event…….ever!!

-The change in Richter and his eventual title victory had to be the biggest shock of the year. He aligned himself with Havok and Anella to further his quest for the title before taking the title from Mikey in highly dubious circumstances. He took advantage of a loophole to cash in his title shot directly after Mikey had successfully retained the title against Jag, Havok and Jimmy Payne. It was a mere formality after Richter chokeslammed Mikey over the top rope and through a table. While many may not agree with Richter’s new method, you can not dispute its effectiveness as he has become the fifth man to wear the EPW title.

-Rove McManus’ appearance was an unexpected bonus for Explosive Pro Wrestling. Lukey and Davis Storm certainly didn’t look like they were expecting him to be there. Psychofett may not have picked up the win over Storm but the sight of him, Rove and Brad locking the figure 4 leglocks on the ForeFathers of Perth wrestling was a thing of beauty.

-The shock re-emergence of Tommy Cartel on Night 1 to conclude the gauntlet match with Azazal was really quite incredible. Without Xeriyous Blade, Cartel seems like he has changed his outlook on wrestling. He looked sensational and it is rumoured that FN Carnage has taken an interest in the young man’s career. He has offered himself as a mentor to Cartel. We are unsure whether or not Cartel has accepted or not yet.

-The split of the Serial Thrillers must rank a mention. Lukey forced them to disband after they failed to become #1 contenders to the tag titles on Night 1. Although it seemed as if Lukey was simply after retribution due to the fact that Justin Sane turned down his offer to join the ForeFathers. Now Brad and Justin find themselves out on their own for the first time in two years. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for these former tag team champions.

-The emergence of the ForeFathers as having a serious agenda. It seemed as if all they were ever going to do was whinge that EPW and the rookies of EPW had held them back for two years. They consider anyone who wasn’t at the original Awakening to be an intruder who is trespassing on what they created. But Evolution showed that these four men will force their agenda by being as disruptive to EPW events as possible. Their beat down of GST and Michelle ranks as one of the dirtiest sneak attacks in EPW history. Michelle has not recovered from the Kryptonite Krunch that she received from Davis Storm and will be out of action for some time to come. Lukey used his spot on the Board of Directors to make a few spiteful decisions over the weekend. These guys are going to be a handful unless EPW can contain the problem in the near future. They seem to be gaining a small measure of support from some of the disgruntled wrestlers who are sick of being passed over for the young talent in EPW. This will be an interesting situation to watch.
