On May 11th 2002, Explosive Coastal Wrestling, as it was then,
held an event called Evolution. After a slow start as a
promotion, this was the night that ECW’s fortunes changed. The
Wanneroo Civic Centre was jam packed with over 350 fans as the
wrestler set about doing everything in their power to make an
impact that would not be forgotten. FN Carnage won a tremendous
match against Damien Kross while in the main event, Davis Storm
pinned Jimmy Payne to become the very first Explosive Coastal
Wrestling champion. It was also the night that Mikey turned his
back on Jimmy Payne, much to the chagrin of the fans.
This monumental event laid the foundation for one simple premise
that still stands today. Evolution is an event where you make
your mark in Explosive Pro Wrestling.
The following year, EPW reformatted the Evolution concept to
make it a two night event. And it had been that way ever since.
And with that innovation, Evolution has been voted the Event of
the Year by our fans for the past three years straight.
2003 saw the crowning of the very first EPW tag team champions
in the Brat Pack. FN Carnage and Jamie Jurah shocked everyone by
defeating the team of Jimmy Payne and Davis Storm.
Evolution would continue to be a kind event to FN Carnage as he
would headline in 2004 in a Taped Fists Street Fight. His
opponent was the Australian wrestling Icon, Lobo. Together, they
helped redefine what two individuals would put themselves
through to hold the EPW championship. Carnage emerged the winner
from a classic brawl that it still one of the greatest matches
in EPW history.
Of course the only thing better than surviving one great
Australian wrestler, is to outlast three. And that’s exactly
what Mikey did in 2005 as he tackled Jimmy Payne, Jag & Havok in
a four way elimination match. This was one of the most
sensational main events that EPW has ever had. In the end it
came down to Mikey and Jag with the ‘Rising Star’ scoring a roll
up over his arch nemesis.
Evolution has become synonymous with classic EPW moments and
matches. And this year’s should be no exception. Be sure to get
your tickets to both nights so you don’t miss a moment of the
action.
