10/07/06 - EPW Announces National Expansion

PERTH, WA: Explosive Pro Wrestling officials today announced that they will be expanding the EPW name into South Australia.

EPW have reached an agreement with a new business in Adelaide to commence a new EPW franchise in South Australia.

Explosive Pro Wrestling has been running shows in Western Australia for almost 5 years and had previously run a show in South Australia in 2004. But this new agreement will see a permanent chapter of EPW based in Adelaide.

“We have been looking at the option of taking EPW into South Australia for some time,” said EPW General Manager Rick Storey, “But starting a new franchise will allow us to expand the EPW name without overcommitting ourselves. With a fresh team in charge and being based in South Australia we can ensure that the new franchise will continue to present wrestling shows in the vein that EPW, and its fans, are accustomed to.”

The new team will be headed up by Rhiannon Clews, who as a former member of the EPW Perth staff, has been appointed the director of operations for the new promotion.

“It’s an exciting time for all of us based here in South Australia,” Rhiannon said, “In years gone by, Adelaide has been a hot bed for professional wrestling and we hope that this new brand will help put South Australia back on the map as the place to watch in this country.”

The operation will be overseen by officials from Perth in its formative stages. A training centre has already been established and officially opened it doors this week. The centre will be headed by wrestler, Hartley Jackson, who has just returned from wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Japan.

Dubbed the Pro Wrestling Dojo, the training centre is located within the Adelaide City Gym and will be used as the central base of operations for the new group. “We don’t just want to use the current stars of South Australian and Australian wrestling, but also develop our own wrestlers who will be trained at the new dojo,” Hartley said.

The new promotion will be known as Explosive Pro Wrestling Adelaide and will also feature wrestlers from EPW Perth. The first show is slated to take place in the last quarter of 2006 with a full time schedule set to take place in 2007.
