05/12/06 - EPW Adelaide's EMERGING

It took two years, but EPW has returned to South Australia and this time, we’re here to stay.

Cosgrove Hall in Clovelly Park was the battleground for EPW Adelaide’s official debut, EMERGING. The fans were set for a big night of wrestling action and that was exactly what they got.

JAMES STREET v JAYSON COOPER

The ‘Queen’ of Australian wrestling took on the sensational hometown boy. This was a fast paced match with plenty of high impact moves as the two men went for the jugular from the opening bell. Street seemed to have the match in hand after a reverse satellite headscissors but fell victim to a 2nd rope gordbuster and a swanton bomb as Cooper picked up a big win.

WINNER: Jayson Cooper by pinfall after a swaton bomb

NATE DOOLEY v RICHTER

The Forefathers entered en masse as Jag verbally ripped into Channel 10 sports presenter, Mark Aiston. Richter headed to the ring, ready to rip Dooley’s head from his shoulders but was greeted by Jag and Davis Storm. Referee Matt Smarkson was having none of this and ejected the tag team champions from ringside. With his ace in the hole removed, Nate spent the entire match trying to duck and dodge the 6 foot 5 inch giant. But it was simply a matter of time before the big man caught him by the throat and chokeslammed him into oblivion. Another impressive win for Richter.

Winner: Richter by pinfall after a chokeslam

SA TITLE TOURNAMENT
HAVOK v CHRIS SPARTAN

This was the first of many SA title tournament matches to come over the next twelve months. It featured the former EPW champion, Havok, and the debuting rookie, Chris Spartan. Most people picked Havok to walk all over Spartan but the young man showed that he was much more than just a physique as he matched it with Havok for much of this match. But despite Spartan’s great effort, it was experience that won the day. Havok utilised Anella to distract the ref at a pivotal moment before putting Chris away with a brutal powerbomb. It was a great start to the SA title tournament.

Winner: Havok by pinfall after a powerbomb

SA TITLE TOURNAMENT
DEVLIN REEVES v ROBBY HEART

The EPW Invitational champion for 2007 has set his sights on becoming the very first EPW SA champion. His first test came in the form of Robby Heart, who was making his EPW debut. This was a typical match from Devlin Reeves as he kept the youngster within arms reach and beat him to a pulp. He punished the youngster with forearms and chops but could not beat the life out of Heart. Robby fought back with everything he had and soared all over the ring with ease. But in the end a package piledriver stopped him in his tracks.

Winner: Devlin Reeves by pinfall after a package piledriver

SLEX v MIKEY
Two of the finest wrestler in Australia went at it in a terrific contest. Mikey’s tremendously healthy ego managed to get him into trouble numerous times in this match. Slex took advantage of every opportunity that Mikey gave him and proved himself to be worthy of his reputation as one of Australia’s best. But it was Mikey’s ego that proved his undoing as he allowed himself to be distracted while Slex rolled him up for a huge win. Slex will be a man to watch in EPW Adelaide.

Winner: Slex by pinfall after a roll up

AZAZAL GATECRASHES THE SHOW
The ‘Fallen Angel’ may be loved at home in Perth but it was the Azazal of old who showed up at Emerging. He lambasted the Adelaide fans before inviting one of the rookie wrestlers (who are stationed around the ring as part of their training) to join him in the ring. He then took it upon himself to destroy the rookie and force a referee to count the three. Although the result is unlikely to stand officially, it was a hell of a debut in EPW-A for Azazal.

EPW TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
‘JAG’ HARTLEY JACKSON & DAVIS STORM v SHANE HASTE & DAMIEN SLATER

The main event of the first EPW-A show saw the first official defense of the tag team titles by Davis Storm & Jag. Haste found himself in the strange position of being the second most popular man in his team as Slater got the home crowd fired up. They proved themselves to be a formidable team as their team work kept them on top early. But an injury to Davis Storm would prove to be the turning point. Haste hit Storm with a slingshot twisting splash breaking Storm’s nose in the process.

Seeing his own blood only set the ‘Ironman’ off and his intensity went through the roof as he looked for retribution. But Shane and Slater weathered the storm (no pun intended) and came back firing.

Just as it seemed like a title change was at hand, Davis prevented the referee from making the winning three count by dropping an elbow on him. When a replacement referee hit the ring, Storm blatantly hit Shane with the belt to earn himself a disqualification.

Winners: Damien Slater & Shane Haste by DQ

Nate Dooley returned to help Jag & Storm beat down the two youngsters. This drew Chris Spartan & Jayson Cooper from the backstage area. No sooner had they hit the ring then Havok and James Street entered and in an instant, wrestler came pouring from the back as the ringside area turned into total anarchy. Spartan paid tribute to his heritage by breaking plates over Havok’s head, while Haste took to the sky with a phoenix 630 splash to the outside. Haste then drilled Storm with a frog splash while Slater superkicked Jag from the ring.

EPW would like to thank all who made this history making event a successful evening. EPW Adelaide is off to a flying start. Bring on 2007!
