24/03/07 - Final two announced for Invitational Tournament
Evolution 2007

It was recently announced that the longest running tournament in Australian wrestling would change format in 2007. No longer would the finals be held at RE-AWAKENING.

This year the tournament would be shortened to a four man single elimination tournament to take place at Evolution. The winner will not only have his name added to the Invitational trophy but will also receive a shot at the EPW championship in 2007.

The first two names were announced as Shane Haste & 2004 Invitational Tournament winner, Richter.

This left two places to be filled by the EPW Board of Directors. After a lengthy discussion, one of the final places was offered to the ‘New Sensation of Australian wrestling’, AZ Vegara. Despite suffering a loss to Chris Vice at the last show, officials decided that AZ had impressed them enough in the past 12 months and argued that this may be what he needs to shoot him to stardom in EPW.

The last spot was debated heavily as many names were thrown forward into the mix. Before a decision could be made, a big name in Australian wrestling contacted the Board and demanded to be a part of the tournament. EPW officials were stunned to hear from this man but honoured his wish nonetheless. The final spot will see a huge name return to Explosive Pro Wrestling for the first time since 2004.

Melbourne wrestling veteran, Spike Steele will return to the scene of the crime as he attempts to erase the painful memories of his last visit to Western Australia. Longtime fans will remember that Spike had his wrist broken in a semi final in the 2004 Invitational Tournament. His opponent that night was Richter.

It appears as if EPW officials are trying to stir the pot a little as Richter & Spike find themselves facing each other in the first semi. That means that Shane Haste will face off against AZ Vegara in the other semi. The semi finals are due to be held on May 4th while the final will be held May 5th.

It looks as if the Invitational Tournament will be even bigger and better than any previous year. Evolution here we come!
