On June 9th 2007, the EPW
championship match that fans and wrestlers alike have been
waiting for, will finally take place. After four years of hard
work and sacrifice, Shane Haste’s dream will become a reality.
The main event for Hell or Highwater 2007, will be an EPW
championship match as Jimmy Payne defends the title against the
Awe-Inspiring, Shane Haste.
This will be Shane’s first attempt at the gold after missing out
on the #1 contendership on many occasions. In 2005, Haste was
the runner up in the Invitational tournament as he just fell
short against Havok. Victory there would have secured him a
championship match. History shows that Havok went on to win the
EPW championship with that title shot.
Shane’s next chance came at Sudden Impact where he seemingly had
the match won before an error in judgement cost him the
opportunity to become #1 contender. Jimmy Payne won that match
and went on to defeat Havok for the title at Evolution 2006.
After twice seeing championship glory ripped from his grasp,
Shane was determined to take advantage of his chances in 2007
and went into Hot Summer’s night more focussed than ever to
secure a shot at the EPW championship. The Forefathers obviously
took note of this and as Shane had the match won, Jimmy Payne
and Nate Dooley stuck their collective noses into the match and
prevented Shane becoming the #1 contender.
Since then, Haste has been on a tear through EPW which
culminated in his victory in the Invitational tournament at
Evolution. By defeating Spike Steele and AZ Vegara, Shane not
only became the Invitational champion of 2007, he also
guaranteed himself a shot at one thing he wants most. The EPW
championship.
This will be the first time that Shane has had a shot at the EPW
championship and he will be coming in prepared.
Over the past four years, Haste has become one of the most
popular figures in EPW history. With his zany antics and high
flying style, Shane has proven to be a hit with all who attend
EPW shows.
