EPW News & Rumours

14/02/08 - Shane Haste vs Bobby Marshall this Saturday

After making his EPW title dream a reality in 2007, Shane Haste has been a fighting Champion. He spent the Christmas period training intensely for a title defence at Goldrush against the Victorian monster known as Spike Steele. Steele has run roughshod over all who have stood in his path and rightfully earned his shot at the EPW title after a vicious submission victory over Devlin Reeves at Re-Awakening VI.

Fans had readied themselves for the toughest defence of their golden boy's career as Haste and Steele were set to destroy one another at Goldrush. However, fate had something different in store.

Spike Steele suffered a serious ankle injury while competing in his home town of Melbourne. This left the #1 contenders spot vacant leading into EPW's first ever Road Show. In a match dubbed the 'Lucky Losers' match, Devlin Reeves, Davis Storm and Bobby Marshall all competed for a guaranteed title shot in 2008 after their dreams of victory were dashed at Re-Awakening. In a match which will no doubt be a contender for Match of the Year, Bobby Marshall emerged victorious and quickly announced to the world when he would be taking
his title shot.

February 16th at Goldrush.

Bobby Marshall is considered by most EPW wrestlers to be the single best wrestler to never wear singles gold in this federation. Some of the most respected men in Perth wrestling believe that Marshall is probably the most talented individual to ever step into an EPW ring. He has proven time and time again that he can beat anyone he wrestles in any given situation. With the exception of championship matches. Bobby has dominated most of the title matches he has been in, but ultimately, he was unable to finish the job when it mattered most.

While Marshall has consistently choked at the final hurdle, Shane Haste has made his career by winning the big matches. He has an intangible quality that allows him to clear every obstacle, no matter how enormous that hurdle may be. The bigger the occasion, the better Shane seems to get. This is a quality that Marshall so desperately lacks.

Fans will question the mental state of Bobby Marshall leading into this huge matchup. After 'choking' so many times in a big match situations, will Bobby be able to silence the demons of his past and finally claim EPW title glory? Or will the trend continue as Shane Haste attempts to cement his name as the premiere wrestler in this country?
