As I'm not one to 'blog' or post
randomly about happenings that well, happen, I decided that it
was an appropriate time to write about something major that is
about to happen in my life & in the lives of many of my friends.
On July 5th, two of my closest
friends will be wrestling their last match. Now it has already
been posted on the EPW message board that this could be a
'wrestling storyline' and that's expected because, lets face it,
a lot of what the public sees is thrown out there for the
purpose of entertainment. So it comes as no surprise that people
may not take it seriously. I say to those people, please come to
this show and please understand that this is indeed, a true
farewell. Please come to help make it a very special night for
two guys who have given their lives to the sport of professional
wrestling.
Six & half years ago I attended a
signing for Bret ‘the Hitman’ Hart. That day I received a flyer
to a show called Awakening and fired off an email to Explosive
Coastal Wrestling. A few days later I met Jim & Nate & we went
to meet the rest of the crew at Fast Eddies in Cannington. I
fondly remember the conversations that took place over that 30
minute drive about wrestling, music and life. I was welcomed
with open arms into the group that we now call a very close
family.
A family that I share too many
great memories with to list.
At Fast Eddies I met Dave, Luke,
Paulie and many others not knowing that these people would
become my closest friends for the rest of my life. If it weren't
for the good nature of Nate & his need to see my Wrestlemania
photos, all the great times, birthdays, parties, hanging out the
day after shows, eastern states trips and crazy cab rides would
never have happened.
In mid 2004 I made the decision to
leave EPW for personal reasons. I asked management if I could
wrestle a match on my way out. It was suggested that I wrestle
Davis Storm. That never came to pass so I contacted Nate & asked
if he would help make my dream of having a proper professional
wrestling match come true. I did this knowing that he could
produce the type of match that I wanted to have.
We did the talk show angle, he
tarred & feathered me & the rest was history. On the night of
RE-AWAKENING 2004 I was a nervous wreck but Nate made sure I
kept it together & he looked after me in the ring. Everything
went great & after the show EPW made a tribute video for me that
I will never forget. I remember looking around the ring as the
video played & saw a bunch of tough guy wresters crying like
five year old girls & knew that it was one of the most special
nights in my life. I just hope that Hell or Highwater can be
half as special for Jim & Nate as they have done so much for EPW
and the future of EPW that they have earnt the respect and
admiration of their friends, their peers and most of all, their
fans they have worked so hard to entertain.
I hope that anyone who reads this
can take the time to make it to 'Hell or Highwater' on the 5th
of July at the Venville Rec Centre in Maylands as it will be a
show that wont soon be forgotten.
