WA vs VIC saw an
incredible main event as Carlo Cannon and Slex defended the EPW
tag team titles against hometown heroes, Davis Storm and Jimmy
Payne.
Days before the show, ‘The Ironman’ issued a call to arms. He
asked the EPW fans to help them create the most hostile
environment possible for our visitors from the East. And he
wasn’t let down.
As Carlo Cannon and Slex made their way through the crowd, it
was mayhem. They needed two security guards to ensure that they
made it to the ring safely for their tag team title defense.
Upon entering the ring, both men were pelted with toilet rolls
by fans, showing their detest for both Carlo and Slex. The
eruption when Jimmy Payne and Davis Storm entered was mind
blowing.
There was major drama before the match could even get underway
as Slex and Carlo assaulted EPW ring announcer, Callan Rose, and
Board of Directors member, Jack Burbank.
After Carlo’s cowardly superkick on Burbank, the champions tried
to exit the building but were cut off by half a dozen of EPW’s
finest who were intent on seeing them take the beating they
deserved.
Once Storm and Payne got their hands on their opponents, they
didn’t let up. The opening five minutes was an all out WA
assault. When the battle found its way into the bar, Storm
launched himself over the guardrail and onto the champions.
The match then went back and forth with all four men unloading
some of their biggest offensive weapons. But despite the
onslaught noone could land the knock out punch.
Slex, in desperation, kicked Jimmy in the groin in perfect view
of the referee. However, Matt Smarkson, realizing that Slex was
attempting to get himself disqualified responded with a slap of
his own but he could not ignore a blatant chair shot moments
later and he threw the match out.
But Brett Corvus was having none of it and he restarted the
match under NO DQ rules. This, along with Jimmy Payne being
busted open, seemed to send Davis Storm into panic mode as he
tried to find a way to end the match quickly.
It would prove to be his undoing.
Carlo was able to duck the Ironman as he launched himself from
the ring and Storm went crashing through the commentators table.
Storm was able to fight his way back into the match but the
damage to his lower back was evident. He fought bravely but was
unable to overcome the two on one odds and eventually tapped out
to a high angle Boston crab.
Post match saw Slex claim that the EPW tag team titles would not
be present at RE-AWAKENING unless he and Carlo were given top
billing to live up to their ‘main event’ status.
Jack Burbank said as much as it pained him to do so, he would
accept their demands in order to see the EPW tag team titles
defended at the biggest show of the year. He then added that
they would be forced to defend the straps in a LADDER MATCH!
Who will step up to try and reclaim the EPW tag team gold at
RE-AWAKENING 8?
