16/03/09 - The EPW CHAMPION Explains his Decision!

GOLDRUSH 2

There was some surprise when Davis Storm’s challenge arrived on our desk a week ago. Why would Davis Storm ask Bobby Marshall to compete for the EPW championship at GOLDRUSH?

The same Bobby Marshall whose ego almost consumed all of EPW last year. The same Bobby Marshall who Storm himself called a disgrace to the great EPW champions of the past. The same Bobby Marshall who is losing the plot as often as he is losing matches these days.

“When I became champion, I said that a great champion doesn’t just win, he makes everyone around him better,” the Ironman said earlier this week.

“People need to not be short sighted here. Bobby Marshall is one of the best wrestlers to ever step foot in an EPW ring. I think most of us would consider Jimmy Payne as the very best wrestler EPW has ever seen. At his very best, I consider Bobby Marshall to be better than that.”

“He has been on a losing streak but he’s hardly been out of form. He laid a beating on Richter and myself inside that cage at RE-AWAKENING 7. He dominated Jamie Jurah  and JT before getting carried away with making a statement instead of focusing on the win.”

Storm makes a great point. Marshall has done absolutely everything but win. His wrestling has been as good as ever. But his ego and temper continue to let him down at pivotal moments in his matches.

“Bob has lost his way. When I hear stories of him boozing away December and January there is no doubt that his behaviour outside the ring is affecting his judgment inside of it,” the champion said.

“He has had some of the most amazing matches we have ever seen in an EPW ring. EPW is better off if Bobby Marshall is at his absolute best. I plan on getting that from him at GOLDRUSH. We all go off the rails at some point in our lives and all we can do is hope that someone helps set us back on the right path. It’s time for Bobby to get back to what he does better than anyone in this country. Wrestle.”

Davis Storm has promised an epic EPW championship match this Saturday night. You will not want to miss this.
