We are joined today by former EPW tag team
champion, Dan Moore. Dan, thanks for joining us.
Now we’ll get to more recent events shortly, first
off we’d like to ask. Three and a half years ago,
you were EPW’s head referee. What made you want to
make the transition to being a wrestler?
To be honest, initially I didn't think that I had
what it took to be an Explosive Pro Wrestling
competitor but I really wanted to be involved
somehow. Refereeing was a great option and as a fan
I got to watch most of EPW's defining matches from
right inside the ring! Eventually though my desire
to compete got the better of me and I knew that I
would regret not making the most of this
opportunity. So after a sleepless night I bit the
bullet and started training. Iit was the best
decision I've ever made in my life! It's been a hard
road though, I spent a good year and a half training
before I finally got to debut against Tyler Jakobs
at a Members Only House Show.
You started out, like your tag team partner,
Chase Griffin, as part of the Jurahnauts with Jamie
Jurah. What was it like learning your craft under
Jamie’s tutelage?
Interesting, to say the least. I was friends with
Jamie Jurah and he wanted to help me out as I
clearly had a long way to go. So we teamed up and
Jamie helped me understand how to strategise for an
upcoming match and make the most of your strengths
as well as training and conditioning. Although I
can't say I always understood what was going on.
Jamie wrestles with, and especially at that time, an
incredibly unique style. Standing there on the apron
watching him, I would think "this is never going to
work", but somehow it almost always did! As you
know, things turned sour toward the end there but I
can't deny that I owe Jamie for a fair chunk of the
wrestler I am today.
Describe how it felt becoming the EPW tag team
champions.
It was incredible. Chase and I somehow found
ourselves with a spot at Evolution 2008 Night One in
the Tag Team Title four way. The match itself was
chaotic, the tension was high, bodies were
everywhere and Brad West was causing trouble at
ringside. I found myself in the ring with Ferguson
Block, who was just getting to his feet. I ran up
and gave him a Victory Roll and before I knew it I
was one half of the new tag team champions. Chase
and I were both still officially rookies at that
point and couldn't believe our luck! I knew we could
win that match, after all anything can happen in Pro
Wrestling, but I dreamed that we would.
Yourself and Chase have enjoyed one of the most
successful tag title reigns in EPW history. But this
year has been a trying one as you guys showed the
first real signs of stress as you were confronted by
the possibility of losing the gold. Do you think
that defeat changed you both?
Everything is mental in Pro Wrestling. Can I make
it to the corner to tag out? Can I get back in the
ring before the 10 count? Can I kick out of this
pin? Should I even try to kick out of this pin and
keep fighting?! Chase Griffin and I are a high
flying team with good team work. That's what set us
apart from the teams we were defending the titles
against for the last year and it's what got us over
the line on most occasions. Then we come up against
Shane Haste and Alex Kingston, who are better high
fliers than us and have just as good team work. Our
strength had just become our weakness. You have no
idea what holding the EPW Tag Team Titles meant to
Chase Griffin and I and when you see them slipping
away from you, it's heart breaking.
At Battle for Supremacy you will be part of a tag
team tournament to earn the right to face the Blitz
Team in EPW’s very first TAG TEAM LADDER MATCH. How
important is it to you both to be a part of that
match?
Chase and I are driven to regain those EPW Tag
Team Titles from Haste and Kingston. We've made a
massive gamble nominating for the Tag Tournament at
Battle For Supremacy. We need to not just prove to
ourselves that we can beat the Blitz Team and but
that we are good enough to beat them at their own
game. I understand completely why Davis Storm
offered Bobby Marshal a title shot at Goldrush 2009.
A champion isn't someone who can win a belt. It's
the guy that can defend the belt. Davis Storm needed
to have that match with Bobby Marshall the same way
that we need this match against the Blitz Team.
Having said that, we have a huge hurdle in front of
us at Battle for Supremacy. Davis Storm has
nominated with Jay Taylor for a place in the
tournament and we'll meet them in the first round. I
watched Davis Storm tear apart the tag team of GST
when they were at their peak, and with Jay Taylor
under his tutelage it could be a very early night
for Chase and I! But we’re not planning to go in
there and put on a good showing. We will be there
for one reason and one reason only.
To win the tournament and go on to Evolution to
make history and beat the Blitz Team
Dan Moore, thank you for your time and good luck
at Battle for Supremacy.
You're Moore than welcome. Get it? Cause of my
name... Dan Moore. No but seriously, you're welcome!
