Next weekend, Alex Kingston, Dan Moore and Chase
Griffin will step into the main event picture for
the very first time. Together with Shane Haste, they
will battle in the very first EPW tag team title
Ladder Match at
EVOLUTION.
The prize they fight for defines both teams and they
will be desperate to win. However, history shows
that victory is not the only prize at stake.
Big time matches need big time performances. For
that to happen, you need big time performers. People
who rise to the big occasion and regardless of the
result, bring out a performance far above what they
have previously been capable of.
Today we take a look back at two moments in EPW
history when the man who lost the match was able to
steal the show and make the most of his moment in a
high stakes match.
Shane Haste vs Havok Invitational Tournament
Final Re-Awakening IV
For almost three years, Shane Haste had toiled away
in Awsome Inc. While being a consistent part of the
EPW show, Shane had yet to break out as a potential
singles star. Not one of the 800 people in
attendance that night gave him a hope in hell
against the South Australian mauler. From the very
first moment in the match, Haste took it to his
larger opponent in a manner that shocked everyone.
His huracanrana over the top rope to the floor is
still one of the most amazing things ever seen in an
EPW ring and typified his aggressive, devil may care
attitude that won him a new respect from even his
most ardent detractors. Despite losing the match,
Haste kickstarted his career with a stunning
performance.
Bobby Marshall vs Jimmy Payne EPW Championship
Match Re-Awakening V
You want to talk about pressure? Wrestling for the
EPW championship in the main event of the biggest
show in EPW history would be enough to rattle even
the most experienced wrestler. Noone would have
begrudged Bobby Marshall if he choked on the big
occasion. Not only did he not choke, he showed that
he was here to stay in the main event picture. He
took the fight to the most dominant EPW champion in
history and fought him all over the Venville Rec
Centre in a wild brawl that almost saw him steal the
gold. It took a returning Nate Dooley to keep the
gold around Paynes waist but the moment belonged to
Bobby Marshall.
Rest assured that both teams will put their bodies
on the line as they attempt to walk away from
Evolution with the tag team titles around their
waists. But all four men realise that there is more
than just the gold on the line next weekend. The
universal respect they desire is within their
grasps. But will this match make or break these two
teams? We will all know the answer after Friday
night!
