This is the final article examining
the six men who are fighting it out to become the Invitational
Tournament winner of 2009. In this final part, we will take a
closer look at two men who know what it’s like to take out the
whole tournament, Tyler Jacobs and Jay Taylor.
TYLER JACOBS
This man is not only a former Invitational Tournament winner. He
is a former EPW champion and he is multiple time EPW tag team
champion. But the past few years have not been kind to the
‘Shotgun’. Injury after injury piled up until he was no longer
able to continue wrestling. After losing to Devlin Reeves at
last year’s RE-AWAKENING, he took some time to re-evaluate his
place in EPW. A serious knee injury kept him sidelined til mid
year but he came back reinvigorated at Hell or Highwater as he
taught Jay Taylor and AZ Vegara a valuable lesson. There is
plenty of fight left in the old dog yet.
Favoured Opponent in the Next Round: Jay Taylor. Jacobs
destroyed him at Hell or Highwater, a feat that Bobby Marshall
and Davis Storm have both been unable to accomplish this year.
He knows that Jay’s confidence would be hurting after that loss
and that he could be doubting his ability to overcome his more
experienced opponent.
JT
Taylor has been riding a tremendous wave of momentum since
wining the Invitational Tournament last November. Noone on the
EPW roster would understand the importance of winning the
tournament more than Jay. Jay’s shoulders have been pinned to
the mat only twice in almost 12 months as he has racked up win
after win. He is not the best wrestler in EPW but his
willingness to absorb punishment and continue to fight is
paralleled only by Davis Storm and Jamie Jurah. That is some
pretty heavy comparisons but Jay has been outwilling opponent
after opponent for almost a year now. He even cleanly pinned the
Ironman earlier this year.
Favoured Opponent in the Next Round: Sebastian Sander. Jay has a
tremendous winning record against the captain of Team All Star
and after being pinned so convincingly by Tyler Jacobs, JT would
be most confident facing someone who he owns a victory over. To
draw a Damian Slater, Tyler Jacobs or Davis Storm at this stage
of the tournament would be devastating to his chances of making
the final round at RE-AWAKENING.
So there you have it. All six men scouted and their chances
analysed. No matter what the brackets are, you can be sure that
all six of these men will lay it all on the line as they try to
become the 2009 Invitational Tournament winner. Don’t miss out
on all the semi final action, set to take place at the Queens
Park Rec Centre on August 8th as Explosive Pro Wrestling reaches
