27/10/09 - Can this Saga Ever End? JURAH vs REEVES

RE-AWAKENING 8

Jamie Jurah searches for redemption at RE-AWAKENING 8.

But he also searches for closure as he goes in to battle his former tag team partner and long-time adversary, Devlin Reeves.

These two have a long and storied history that has spanned over five years. It began when Devlin was recruited into the Brat Pack by Rick Sanders, Tyler Jacobs and Jamie Jurah. But Jurah was the one who really pushed for his inclusion in their stable.

“He had been the ‘Playboy’ for a couple of years but there seemed to be an untapped intensity in him that we needed to keep our team moving forwards,” Jurah said in a recent interview.

Devlin joined Jamie as a tag team for almost a year. They seemed to bring out a nasty edge in each other that spurred them on to tag team success. But they could never quite win the tag team titles and after the break up of the Brat Pack as a stable, Devlin started to show resentment towards Jamie.

They had a bitter split in which Reeves handcuffed Jurah and chopped his back continuously until it bled. It is still to this day one of the most intense moments in EPW history.

The result was a Last Man Standing match that took place at Hell or Highwater 2005. Both men brutalized each other as they searched for a way to keep the other down for the ten count. It would be luck that would help Devlin to a hard fought victory but his post match antics would ensure that this issue would not die anytime soon. He piledrove Jamie through a table which resulted in a lengthy lay off for the Master of the Jurahverse.

“I tried to shake his hand after the match so we could put it all behind us but it was clear that he still wasn’t over his issue with me. He won the match. I still to this day don’t understand why he felt his job wasn’t done until I was on the shelf,” said Jurah.

After almost twelve months away from EPW, Jamie would return to defeat Devlin in a First Blood Match that seemed to finally put a full stop to the feud that had consumed both men for almost two years.

But earlier this year, Devlin returned to seemingly be an ‘insurance policy’ for Jamie as he prepared to battle Richter for the EPW championship at EVOLUTION. Reeves was paid by Jamie’s then manager, Rick Sanders, to ensure that Rick’s client left with the gold. He did exactly that but unfortunately for Jamie, Rick’s ‘Chosen One’ turned out to be Richter.

“Even after Devlin cost me the title, I tried to get my focus straight back onto the EPW championship. Revenge wasn’t an issue. The gold is the only reason I came back to EPW in the first place. But he kept sticking his nose in my business.”

After failing to verbally provoke Jamie into a match, Reeves then interfered in Jurah’s #1 contenders match with Bobby Marshall, effectively robbing him of a chance to wrestle for the gold again in 2009.

“I still don’t understand his motivation, but I understand my own very clearly. Eliminate Devlin Reeves and get myself back in the EPW championship hunt. He’s made it very clear that as long as he’s breathing, I won’t get near that belt. So I guess it’s time I take him out for good.”

There was a calm in Jurah’s voice as he said this but it was underlined by a clear determination that the threat of Reeves must be eliminated once and for all.

November 7th, we can only see one winner. There is a good chance that one of these men won’t be walking out of the Craigie Leisure Centre at night’s end.
