TAYLOR – Paying the Price in a Quest for Respect
FACT: Jay Taylor has paid his dues.
FACT: Noone cares.
Despite all his success late last year, 2009 has been a reality
check for JT. After splitting away from Bobby Marshall,
Jay found himself on an incredible roll that took him all the
way to an Invitational Tournament victory at last years
RE-AWAKENING. But despite that amazing roll continuing
in 2009, he has struggled to find relevance.
“I think I struggled with the success a little bit,” JT said
when we recently caught up with him. “It was great that I was
winning. But I was charging up the ladder so quickly that I
wasn’t really ready for it. I had a chance at the EPW
championship but I’m not sure I really believed that I was ready
to be in that match let alone be champion. Well now that I’ve
been there once, I wanna get there again. But this time, I’ll be
ready to take the gold.”
JT featured in a three way match for the EPW championship
against Richter and Davis Storm. He found himself
out of his depth and he never seemed to be able to assert
himself on the match. Jay seemed reserved and was seemingly
second guessing himself. It was a far cry from the JT who gutted
out a tough win against his former mentor, Bobby Marshall
earlier in the year.
JT is respected in the EPW locker room as one of the hardest
workers at his craft. Since first arriving at EPW, Jay has
transformed himself into a confident and exciting wrestler. But
he has struggled for crowd support recently, a victim of his own
success.
“People don’t care about the hard work behind the scenes and
rightfully so,” said Jay. “I hope I can turn their opinions
around by giving them my very best each and every time I step in
the ring. I believe that I’m ready for another shot at the gold
and I won’t let this chance slip on November 7th.”
JT will see this not only as a chance to win the Invitational
Tournament for a record second time. He will see it as a chance
to start again. And this time, he plans on getting it right.
Can JT walk away with the Invitational Tournament trophy and the
respect that he craves on November 7th?
