02/11/09 - DAMIAN
SLATER – Is this the Goldenboy’s Time?
When he arrived in EPW in 2005, Damian Slater was a
skinny little kid who was finding his way in Australian
wrestling. Although he wasn’t even close to being a star at that
early stage his nickname at the time could not have been more
appropriate. ‘The Future of Australian Wrestling.’
Four years later and it’s safe to say that Damian Slater has
arrived.
Arguably the most travelled wrestler in this country, Slater is
in demand wherever he goes. In 2009 he has wrestled in
Queensland, Melbourne, Adelaide and, of course, Perth. He has
main evented shows all over Australia and is respected as one of
the finest ring technicians going round today.
But one thing has eluded him no matter where he has gone.
Championships.
Slater realizes that to be seen as the very best in Australian
wrestling today, he needs to add titles to his resume.
He thought that last year’s Invitational Tournament would act as
his springboard to the top in 2009. But a shock upset at the
hands of JT would rob him of what he felt he truly deserved.
Loss is simply not an option for the Goldenboy in this year’s
finals. With a loss he would go crashing back into the pack with
a reputation of not being able to get in done in big match
situations. A win would put him straight into title contention
and the main event spot that he feels he truly deserves.
With Amber by his side, Slater thinks 2010 will be his year. And
for that to happen, he plans on walking out of RE-AWAKENING 8
with the Invitational Tournament trophy in hand.
November 7th could be the Goldenboy’s time to shine.
