03/11/09 - DAVIS
STORM – Ironman hoping to create history one more time
Davis Storm has been a trailblazer in Perth wrestling
since his debut in 2001.
He was the very first Explosive Pro Wrestling champion (then
Explosive Coastal Wrestling). He has held the EPW tag team
titles twice. He has taken home the Wrestler of the Year and
Match of the Year awards twice. He was in the very first Ironman
Match to be held on Australian soil in a match that was voted
the best match in the first five years of EPW existence.
But despite all those accolades, there is one thing he has never
done.
Win the longest running tournament in Australian wrestling
today, the Explosive Pro Wrestling Invitational Tournament.
“After losing in the finals that first year (to Jimmy Payne) I
just never managed to get myself back in the tournament,” the
Ironman said. “It’s been eating away at me for eight long
years.”
Those who are closest to Davis know that he strives for
excellence. He is his own biggest critic and he is never happy
as he continues to work at his craft week in, week out. The fact
that he has rarely been invited to participate in the tournament
is sore point with him as he tries to fill the hole in his
resume that he believes should read ‘Invitational Tournament
Winner’.
“I don’t want to whinge about lack of opportunities because
quite simply, EPW have been fantastic to me over the past eight
years,” quipped Storm. “But I won’t be wasting this chance
because I know that it could be another eight years before I get
another crack at this Invitational Tournament. I want this. This
isn’t just a way back to the title for me. I want my name on
that trophy and I don’t care who I have to roll through to make
that happen.”
On November 7th, the Craigie Leisure Centre will witness a Davis
Storm who believes he is in the best shape of his life since the
Ironman Match in 2005. They will also see a Davis Storm who
believes that he will be walking out of RE-AWAKENING with the
Invitational Tournament trophy.
