09/07/10 - Countdown to Hell or Highwater 2010
- Tag Team Tables Match
This is the story of the dream team, the diamonds in the rough,
two dark horses and the EPW Tag team Championships. And TABLES!
The dream team are of course your EPW Tag Team Champions,
Mikey Nicholls
and Shane Haste. Team Murder Death Kill (TDMK) as they like to
be known, won the straps eight months ago at Re-Awakening 8 and
haven’t looked back since. Their dominance over the most
impressive tag division in Australia is hardly surprising when
you look at how they came to be.
Last May, at Evolution,
Carlo ‘Cash-Money’ Cannon & Slex robbed EPW of
the tag belts with dirty underhanded tactics. The
powers that be knew not to risk the fate of the championships at
Re-Awakening, so they put together the most impressive team they
could think of to win them back. Between Haste and Nicholls
there isn’t a title or trophy in EPW they haven’t won. Nicholls,
as well as being the first ever NWA Australian National
Champion, has had success overseas, picking up the EWF
Championship in
America. Last year Haste came within a breath on winning the NWA
World Heavyweight title. Add to that their combined resume of
three EPW Championship reigns, tag title reigns, numerous match
of the year awards, and the prestigious Invitational Tournament
trophy and it is clear that they are without a doubt the two of
the most decorated wrestlers in EPW, perhaps even Australia.
Hence, the dream team moniker. Although if you have ever seen
one of their matches you would know that TDMK is just as
fitting.
The diamonds in the rough are Damian Slater & AZ Vegara. Rough
because they are the newest team in the division, teaming
together only twice so far. Diamonds because in that short
period of time they have made quite an impact and shown glimmers
of brilliance. At
Evolution night, one they won their first
match together in dominant fashion while the next night although
they lost to TMDK, they came as close as any to winning the
belts. At the conclusion of that match both Vegara and the
teams’ valet, Amber, were sent through a table by the champs.
Furious over the incident, AZ demanded an immediate rematch,
this time with the stipulation of tables added into the mix. As
singles competitors both Slater & Vegara have spent the last few
years hovering around the glass ceiling, threatening to burst
through at any moment. With the EPW roster currently so heavily
stacked with talent, they realize their best chance at gold is
as a united front. These tag titles could be just the ticket to
take these men rocketing to the top of the food chain.
As for the dark horses, that title may be less than fair to the
team of Chris Vice & Lord Jonathon Wimbledon. After all, they
too stepped into the spotlight at
ReAwakening 8, winning a 4 way
tag team match and claiming the #1 contendership for the tag
titles. When they cashed in and took on TMDK earlier this year,
the match was described by EPW announcer Lukey Bolland as
“the
best live wrestling match I have ever seen. Anywhere!” Despite
such glowing praise, they too were unsuccessful in knocking the
champs off of their perch. Last month, Vice and Wimbledon once
again won the right to call themselves #1 contenders, proving
that they are clearly the ‘best of the rest’. However, when the
champs are the ‘best of the best’ is that enough to get the job
done? They intend to find out, invoking their right to a title
shot, immediately.
So, there are two teams, both gunning for the champs, both with
legitimate cases for a rematch. Which one gets their shot?
Besides that, can any one team dethrone Nicholls & Haste? The
champs certainly don’t seem to think so. With their confidence
running high and victories over both teams till fresh in their
mind, they have decided to accept both challenges.
So it will be TMDK vs Slater & Vegara vs Vice & Wimbledon in a
triple threat TABLES match for the EPW Tag Team Titles! Some
think the champs may have bitten off more than they can chew
this time. No doubt they are the top dogs in the division, but a
tables match can be so unpredictable, not to mention throwing an
extra team into the mix, this match could be anyone’s for the
taking.
Last time EPW had a tables match, it was voted by fans as the
2009 Match of the Year. That match was also for the tag titles,
and it also featured Shane Haste who went through three separate
tables. And his team won! One can only imagine the world of pain
all six men will be put through. How will this story end? Will
they all survive? Will we have new tag champs? Will there be
enough tables??? At the 9th Annual Hell or Highwater, July 10th,
the EPW fans will have their answers.
With titles, tables, and tournaments, Hell or Highwater
2010 has an action packed card, set to showcase all that
EPW has to offer. Make sure you secure your tickets now by
