13/04/11 - The Next Generation Arrives at MIDDAY MAYHEM

MIDDAY MAYHEM

In early 2011, the EPW Board of directors set down a challenge to the younger generation in the EPW locker room. In the absence of Mikey Nicholls, Shane Haste and Bobby Marshall (who returned on Sunday) and the reduced role of many of the Old School EPW wrestlers, it was time for the Next Generation to step up.

Not only did they step up at MIDDAY MAYHEM, one of them robbed the house and became the New EPW Champion.

GOLDEN NIGHT FOR THE GOLDEN GREEK

At Goldrush, Marcius Pitt came within a breathe of defeating Davis Storm for the EPW Championship. At Midday Mayhem, he showed an intelligence to compliment his ruthless attitude to destroy anything that stands between him and success and it resulted in him becoming the 10th EPW champion in history.

It wasn’t just the fact that he became champion. It was the manner in which he did it. He destroyed two of best wrestlers to ever step into a ring in this country. Bobby Marshall and Davis Storm are two names that instill respect in anyone who has wrestled them over the years. Pitt treated them both like rag dolls. Now the Golden Greek has arrived and he isn’t going anywhere.

AZ BRINGS JT BACK INTO THE FOLD

Just two and a half years ago, AZ Vegara and Jay Taylor were tag team partners under the tutelage of Bobby Marshall. JT was ousted from that trio and bad blood had existed between these men ever since.

It took the persuasion of Amber to bring these two men back together again for one simple goal. Get the gold.

With Amber still being injured from a ringside fall in February, she wanted someone accompanying AZ to ensure that he walked away with the EPW championship at MIDDAY MAYHEM. And they came extremely close to achieving that goal. What Sunday proved, is that these two men still work amazingly well together despite their prior issues. With this friendship being rekindled, perhaps a run at the EPW tag team titles is not out of the question. The partnership will guarantee success for both men.

HARDCORE GOAL BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN YOUNG STARS

With a shot at the EPW Hardcore Title hanging in the balance, three of EPW’s brightest young stars took it to each other in a NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH.

Chase Griffin, Dan Moore and Alex Kingston all took their game to another level as they played a dangerous game of one upmanship in the hope of scoring a huge win that would allow them a chance to wrestle Tyler Jacobs at EVOLUTION.

In the end, it was Chase Griffin who won the day, but there is no doubt that all three men’s stock rose on account of their performance on Sunday. With many dubbing it match of the night, they will all have to keep up the hard work to ensure that their careers continue to move in the right direction.

MCAGVIN SLAMS THE DOOR SHUT ON SCHMIDT

For the most part, the early years of his career have seen Gavin McGavin take the role of the loveable loser. While he has managed to score some unexpected victories (Re-Awakening Hardcore Battle Royale) he has generally been a wrestler who has always given 100%, while not finding the success he desires.

His victory over Garry Schmidt on Sunday proved that when he sets his mind to it, McGavin can get the job done. With no Bruiser Barry at ringside (possibly still distraught over his destruction at the hands of Jamie Jurah) the ‘Shootfighter’ showed that when the playing field was level, he was the better man. He will be hoping that this victory will help him gather some momentum for the remainder of 2011.

NEXT STOP - EVOLUTION

While both Chase Griffin and the new EPW champion, Marcius Pitt already have huge matches for EVOLUTION, the rest of the Next Generation are yet to find out what the EPW Board f Directors have in store for them. With EVOLUTION always being one of the biggest shows of the year, you can be sure that all involved will be laying it all on the line on May 14th.
